Illegal play down field blocking

@swirley0813 @benvolin No, I am right. PS: here is the rule

Hogan and Edelman are blocking exactly 1 yard from the LOS.

No OPI whatsoever.

I don't think Prisco realizes what that blue line in the photo represents.

He literally goes on several twitter responses telling everyone else that THEY are wrong. Too funny..

Somebody with a Twitter account needs to eviscerate Prisco

I watched the replay, from the angle I think there was a block 2 yards downfield (in this picture the ball hasn't been caught yet so the block is slightly further downfield when possession is attained). Tough to see live. Funny thing is the Falcons did the exact same thing for their first playoff TD vs. Seattle. Also uncalled.

Actually, now that I look at it, he might have an argument.

Hogan is blocking a full centimeter beyond 1 yard. Egregious no-call.

He's wrong and here is why:

You cannot block more than 1 yard beyond the line of scrimmage. But what does that mean? Both players have to be within a yard of the LOS? The contact itself has to be within 1 yard of the LOS?

The answer is that the rules clearly state that the blocking player himself has to be more than 1 yard beyond the line of scrimmage for it to be pass interference. Hogan is clearly standing on the 1 yard line. His body is leaning forward and the contact takes place inside the 1, but that's ok.

RULE 8 SECTION 5 PASS INTERFERENCE ARTICLE 1. DEFINITION. It is pass interference by either team when any act by a player more than one yard beyond the line of scrimmage significantly hinders an eligible player’s opportunity to catch the ball.

If I actually had twitterface, I'd probably send him the above reply.

Ah, but we are not using the metric system!

.

Just reaching. Get ready for more of this type of nitpicking. It was a game where many things broke for the Pats... Don't get me wrong, they definitely forced those "breaks," but not everyone will see it that way. They're wrong either way.

I scrolled through the replies and he called one guy an idiot and another a fool for correcting him. Very professional.

hes just looking for an excuse

It's actually not tough. Hogan and Edelman didn't engage until the ball was released and engage 1 yard from the LOS. The blue line in the above picture is the LOS. Doesn't matter where Amendola is, it's where the LOS is. For them to be 2 yards down field they would have had to been in the end zone.
