WHY ON EARTH WOULD WE TRADE GRONK???? ARE YOU NUTS

Yes, Jimmy G looked good in flashes but the truth is he might not even be good i'd trade him alone for the 12th pick and i would trade Gronk for the first overall pick so yes.

People overrate Garoppolo based on 1 1/2 games, if Cleveland offer the 12th pick Bill will drive him to Cleveland himself.

I always laugh when people say teams won't trade a 1st for Garoppolo because he only played 1.5 games

You realize if they were looking at a QB at that spot that Garoppolo has more experience at the pro level compared to any of those QBs in the draft, right?

Here were a couple of trades made last year

Rams traded two 2nd round, a 3rd round, a 4th round in '16 and a 1st and 3rd in '17 to move up 7 spots to get Goff

Eagles traded their 3rd and 4th round pick in '16, their 1st in '17 and and their 2nd round in '18 to go up 6 spots in to get Wentz

If Belichick called up Cleveland and said I want the #12 for Garoppolo Cleveland would do it in a heartbeat. Garoppolo is an nfl ready QB, the QBs in the draft are not and there is no telling if they ever will be.

OK.

Well first of all for you to object to the he is "always injured" description seems strange. It is the number two topic regarding him that comes up other than how good he is. (Which yes, he is really really good)

This trade is dumb..... Dumb for the Browns to make. Honestly that is what I thought I would hear the most on this thread. Two 4 to 5 year defensive stars could be brought from this trade, for 1.) a QB we are already willing to trade and 2.) an all world tight end who IS injurred for the end of most seasons and playoff runs, and we have won the Super Bowl without. And 3.) he has had THREE disc surgeries.

Honestly, if this trade were even possible which it is not because even the Browns are not this dumb, The Pats would be crazy not to do it.
I thought it was dumb to start with, but trying to defend it is dumber or even dumbest.

First of all, I have no problem in trading JG to pretty much anyone for a first + picks. But the "always injured" is the thing I have the biggest problem with. The FACT is that, over 7 years, Gronk has played in close to 80% of the possible regular season games. (79%) So the "always injured" myth is just that......a myth. It is like saying a QB who has an 80% completion rate, "always misses his receivers".

THEN there is the ASSUMPTION that we would get 2 defensive "stars" from those picks. Well the truth is MAYBE they become stars, and MAYBE even if they become stars, they too might be "always" injured.

THEN there is the fact of the impact Gronk can have on an offense.....any offense. Why would you even consider moving just about the ONLY player (other than Brady) who actually IS an elite player on an offense filled will "merely" good players. A player so good that if you put him on the roster of half the teams in the league they'd be considered legitimate superbowl contenders. (that maybe a bit hyperbolic, but not by much)

BOTTOM LINE- I guess I wasn't offended by the trade scenario, more than that you thought Cleveland would be stupid to do it. At any rate, you are certainly entitled to your opinion. It's going to be a month before FA starts and we have to to talk about something. Just look at the time we have both wasted today.

The argument that ''we had Gronk against Denver and still lost'' doesn't work because everything else is not being equal.

This year we probably had the best defense we've had since 2004, the best receiving corps since 2007 and a good offensive line. This team went 14-1 with Brady and 17-2 overall. Last year's team went 3-5 in the last 8 games. Too many injuries, terrible offensive line, a lack of depth on both offense and defense. It was a flawed team and Gronk was one of the only bright spots.

Bennett+Mitchell+Hogan+Dion+improved James White+healthy Dola and Edelman>>>whatever we had last year.

That's why we didn't miss Gronk much. Imagining last year's team without Gronk gives me a headache.

This trade is about as likely as the NFL returning our lost 4th round pick.
Has this board gone all DW Toys on us?

I'd almost think about it, but never gonna happen. Besides, the Browns would be major idiots to do that. They already have Barnidge and a few other young WR's. Why get Gronk when you have way bigger needs everywhere else on the roster?

Rob Gronkowski

Gronk looks like he is going to get rewritten after next year, but next year itself looks real cost-effective. Jimmy has a year left then they have a decision to make. So the trade is 1 and 12 for one super cheap plus two market value years for Gronk, plus one super cheap year of JG.

Maybe one way to look at that is: 12 for a year of JG, and 1 for three years of Gronk. Gronk IMO is a planet player, JG looks like a nice prospect.

I haven't gone too hard into the draft to see what players they could get, but I think BB would at least have to think about that one. Meanwhile I don't think CLE would offer that without some guarantee that they could sign JG.

So the minimum you expect is the 12th overall pick?

People trade more for draft picks than actual players because there's a value chart out there for teams to use.

Cleveland would do in a heartbeat? So you're expecting a minimum of the 12th pick?

Did you think Jamie Collins would be traded for a pick at the end of the 3rd round?

You'll be lucky to even get a starter at that pick.

I expect him to be traded for something in the 20's + a 2nd or 3rd, i think hopes of a pick in the top 15 are delusion, very rarely happens looks good on paper but the NFL values unknown draft picks with 5 years of cheap contract more than a player with a few years of experience and a small slice of NFL film but is needing paid.

I think we all know that you can't win in the NFL without high 1st round picks right?

So lets take this astute thread to the next level!

What about we package Belichick, Brady, McCourty, Butler and Edelman for Cleveland's next 5 1st rounders?

That would be so, like, exciting on draft day - 1st rounders never fail to pan out so this would be a great idea, I think.

What do you guys think?

Should we trade away some players who are great now (booooooring) for some other players who may (or may not) be great later (exciting!!!!!)?

p.s I'm going to make one of these threads every other day for the whole offseason.
