Actually we got stopped last year with a healthy Gronk
He nearly single handedly won us that game if it hadn't been for Gostowski or Bill for changing the rules.

#1 and #12...

I'd do it with a couple of caveats.

1.) Bennett signs for a 3 year deal so that we have a TE on the roster.
2.) If BB thinks he can turn # 1 into 2 additional first rounders.

Not Gronk. With a healthy Gronk we would've blown out the Falcons

There have been very few players that I 100% want to play their entire careers and retire as a Patriot. Gronk is one of them. I know it's probably unrealistic that he stays his entire career, but I hope he does. I don't want to see him in another uniform.
OK. So I sort of agree with this feeling.. however great Patriots have played else where.

But specifically, let me just get your absolute answer.. you are "no" to trading Gronk and JAG for number 1 and number 12 picks this draft. correct?

Why do you guys badly want to get rid of Gronk? We just barely won the Super Bowl and could get back the best recieveing threat in the league...
We won SB 49 also barley and Gronk played. So what is your point here. Personally i don't won't to get rid of him, he's an absolute monster on the field and makes every team better. So why give him away? You're not getting the same talent ever again at the TE position. But judging this situation by the Super Bowl is wrong.

I would want him to draft Myles Garret with the number 1. However, I would defer to BB obviously with whatever he did. My hope would be he would use both picks where they are.

Yes to Garappolo. No to Gronk.
you don't get the one pick for JAG only.

The reality is this deal would be too good to be true. If Cleveland was crazy enough to do this BB would do it in a nano second.

OK, I will try some reasons..

First,
1.) Cleveland would never do it, because it would be HUGELY better move by us than them.
2.) Gronk is always injurred
3.) Defense wins championships
4.) Two high first pics builds this team up for the future, probably two awesome defensive players
5.) We and 49 other teams have won the Super Bowl without Gronk

Honestly, I think this would be an obvious huge win for the Pats if this trade happened.
FIRST lets dispell the misnomer that Gronk is always injured. He has played 7 seasons for the Pats and has played 15 or more games in 4 of them. His 11 game season was the broken arm season, and DUH, he had a broken arm, not brittle bone disease. In 2o13 he had the ACL, which is the same injury EVERY player can get on every play he plays, and there hasn't been a reoccurance of that injury. But if THAT is a worry, you wouldn't sign anyone.

So really what are you left with that is a reasonable concern. And that's this year back surgery. The back is always a worry, but he came into the league with huge back concerns and it wasn't until his 7th year that it caused him to miss games. And who knows if this surgery didn't solve the issue.

So explain to me again just how moving the best TE in the league, if not the best in NFL history for a single first round pick that has a 50/50 shot at being a disappointment. Remember he's still only 27 years old, and is widely considered the single most impactful offensive threat that isn't a QB in the league. Plus the fact that he plays a position that BB considers the most difficult to replace on offense outside of QB.

This hypothetical trade is seriously dumb, let alone thinking that if Cleveland made it, it would be a steal for us. Yeah that makes sense. Cleveland would get 2 players who can given them a legitimate offense immediately, and the Pats get 2 50/50 shots at 2 good players.

That's 4200 points on the draft value chart or in Bill value picks 36-44 + 67-68. The draft forum's floor would be a sticky mess of mock drafts with nobody getting more than a pick or two projected correctly.

Yes, Jimmy G looked good in flashes but the truth is he might not even be good i'd trade him alone for the 12th pick and i would trade Gronk for the first overall pick so yes.

People overrate Garoppolo based on 1 1/2 games, if Cleveland offer the 12th pick Bill will drive him to Cleveland himself.

Gronk would also be traded for the number 1 overall pick because he can't stay healthy and Bill is pretty clearly getting sick of not being able to rely on him, you can also trade that #1 pick for like a first rounder for the next 3 years with a QB needy team.

Those surgeries are mounting for Gronk, he's getting one basically every season and back surgeries are no joke.

Bill would do this deal in a heartbeat, only fans wouldn't because they overvalue their own players.

OK. So you would not trade Gronk and JAG for the 1 and 12 pic? correct?

Unless NE knows something certain (and negative) about the long-term health of Gronk, I would pass. Would I spend hours at night crying about it ? No. I am confident Gronk - even with his health concerns - is worth more than a first round pick. Because, when right, he is the ULTIMATE first rounder in terms of talent.

If a first rounder presents itself for Jimmy - sign me up. I am confident the market for JG will be solid and I hope NE capitalizes on it.

OK.

Well first of all for you to object to the he is "always injured" description seems strange. It is the number two topic regarding him that comes up other than how good he is. (Which yes, he is really really good)

This trade is dumb..... Dumb for the Browns to make. Honestly that is what I thought I would hear the most on this thread. Two 4 to 5 year defensive stars could be brought from this trade, for 1.) a QB we are already willing to trade and 2.) an all world tight end who IS injurred for the end of most seasons and playoff runs, and we have won the Super Bowl without. And 3.) he has had THREE disc surgeries.

Honestly, if this trade were even possible which it is not because even the Browns are not this dumb, The Pats would be crazy not to do it.

Actually we got stopped last year with a healthy Gronk
No one else was though. Injuries to key players (Lewis, Solder...) sunk the 2016 squad. Amazingly, they almost pulled through.

Gotta be honest if I were the GM and the the Browns called up offering that deal, I would have a hard time turning it down. #1 and #12 are great draft capital on their own, but they could also be parleyed in to much more currency with the way we like to trade picks.

There are also a lot of talented TE in this draft so we could still pick one up in large part thanks to the two picks we'd be aquiring and still have plenty of ammo for addressing other concerns.

Trading Gronk will never be easy, but it has to be at the very least considered a logical option in this hypothetical deal

It depends. Who can we get with those picks? If we could draft our future franchise QB and continue the dynasty for another decade then sure.
