What do you think the outcome of Brady's appeal to Goodell will be?

  • Stays 4 games

  • Cut to 2 games - Goodell says suspension is for non-cooperation

  • Cut to 2 games - Goodell says Brady cooperated on appeal, suspension is for deflating

  • Cut to 1 game - Goodell says suspension is for non-cooperation

  • Cut to 1 games - Goodell says Brady cooperated on appeal, suspension is for deflating

  • Suspension completely lifted

Noticed how you didn't try to answer the other 2. Might be true? Really? I'm not that much of a homer.

Sometimes the truth does sound weird. The point is, standing alone, none of these texts amounts to anything. At worst, they're insinuating. Just sizzle, no steak.

Forgive me if anyone's already done this - but I'm curious as to the pulse of New England fans on the eve of the appeal (not that I think it matters - Roger once again has already decided how he's going to rule - expect Mortensen to have the details later tonight)

If, by some odd chance Goodell realizes what a pickle he's in and offers to reduce Brady's penalty to 2 or even 0 games, would you rather Brady play - even if it means allowing his name, and the reputation of the Patriots, to languish in the realm of "cheaters"

Or would you rather Brady miss as many games as need be and fight this thing to the bitter end, illustrating that Timmy Johnson's 4th grade science fair experiment demonstrated more about football deflation in the cold than Wells ever did?

I know what my answer is - and I do remind people that missing 4 or even 2 games, if those result in a loss, can mean the difference between having home field advantage, a bye, or even making the playoffs alltogether (2008 - 11-5 and no playoffs)

Also bear in mind that by accepting a reduced penalty Brady is effectively admitting de facto guilt - at least to public perception, even if he is doing it to put his team above his personal agenda

Anything short of rescinding all punishment should = going to court.

Any deal that Goodell could offer Brady would always have the stigma of people believing that it was influenced by backroom dealing with Kraft. And it would probably be true.

So no deal.

I predict the appeal doesn't end tomorrow -- Wells will spend most of the day being questioned. It will continue on Thursday.

The result is a game of chicken...Who has more to hide? If the NFL knows there is some incriminating communication in its offices prior to the game, they'll cut the suspension to zero just to avoid going to court.

If not, the NFL offers two games to make it appear reasonable.

Brady declines....the NFLPA wants this to go to court.

Deflator? That's easy.
Brady, "yeah, I told them to keep the balls on the lower end of what's permitted under the rule. I never told them to deliberately go below that and I certainly didn't tell them to tamper with the balls after the refs' final inspection."

The weight loss thing sounds silly but it might be true and the term 'deflator', in and of itself, doesn't really prove anything. It just sounds worse than it is because they dubbed this nontrovery 'deflategate'.

I blast at thee!!!

The problem is that you cant have it both ways though. Was he called the deflator because his job was to take balls out of the box, deflate them to the lowest allowed level, and then give them to the refs OR was it a nickname for losing weight?

Fight it to the end but let's be certain of one thing, Brady will never be fully exonerated in the public and media eye, damage is done already.

But if he doesn't get a judge to set aside a suspension during the process then maybe a game or so ain't that bad.

Do, please, show us your proof of that.

You absolutely can have it both ways. Sometimes a boss is called 'big guy' because he is the boss and he happens to be a big guy. Nicknames are especially popular when they work on more then one level. Here is a guy who does deflate (and inflate) footballs - so why is it such a stretch if you base the nickname on that duality? I'd say its the norm - and not anything strange.

Goodell has got nothing - he will let this go to court. Goodell loses in court all the time - he is not concerned. I think he will stall on the appeal -maybe two months. Then it will get to court. Brady has a chance to miss some games. But he will lose in court eventually and - Brady will get the money back for missing the games - and that's fine with Goodell.

Kessler has to do more then win in court - he needs a way to hurt Goodell. Maybe he can dredge something up that is criminal.. and get the Feds involved. That's my pie in the sky hope.. Because straight up money doesn't bother Goodell at all. It's not really his money - just the owners..

Actually, and anyone who's seen even decent court TV shows knows this, you can have it both ways. You can offer up multiple possible justifications of a defense. It's up to the prosecution to prove what happened, not the defense.

What happened in this case is an embarrassment even with the preponderance standard.

Why can't it be both?

It could be both but I'd like to hear a real explanation on it.

Nothing has gone the way we pats fans have wanted it to go since we first heard about this the night of the afc champ game. Every worst case scenario has happened. I predict the only thing that saves brady is if he goes to court. And we gotta pray the judge isn't a brady/pats hater because one thing this whole thing has shown is grown men of all professions love football and have a crazy jealousy of how brady has dominated this league for almost 20 years with an ease that even Montana never had.

Right, and Brady denied knowing McNally why? Sure you can spin plausible stories about all the evidence but that doesn't make the pats and Brady innocent. I fall in the unpopular camp that the Patriots were f'ing around with the balls and got caught. Minor IMO and they should have admitted it and moved on. The coverup is always worse than the crime.

This has to be Felget. Let's face it, few people would sink low enough to use Pat Tillman's image and legacy to troll a Patriots messageboard, but Felger wouldn't even have to sink to that level, he was already that low.

I'm sure Tillman and his family would be honored by trolling in his name...................

Praying for something good to happen today, but expecting the worst. I imagine Brady feels much the same way...

Honestly what's most important to me is that Brady and his team give no respect to the Commissioner, in their tone, body language, and engagement in the proceeding. Don't let him get away with acting like he is completely in control of this; insist that it is a meeting of equals. If he starts to insist, in any way, that everyone from Brady's side must be subservient to his agenda, or even polite, push back and be as cold and hard ass as possible.

I want Brady and his team to send the message that they have no respect for Goodell through this meeting. The Goodell and the NFL has an agenda against the Patriots and that this is part of the conversation. No "press conference nice guy Tom." I want Tom to act as if Goodell and his team are an NFL defense that stands between him and another ring.

And, I want Brady and his team to insist that the draft picks and fine are a penalty against him personally, and are part of what is under discussion, because they handicap him and his team from playing on an equal playing field...in other words, compromise the integrity of the game.

I know this is entirely emotional and non strategic. But that's how I feel.

brady up on the table.....he shoulda brought gronk with him
