If a guarantee could somehow be made that Brady would never get injured, I’d take Brissett for the sake of development and planning. Then evaluate a few years from now and see what comes of it.

If we’re talking reality and the unpredictable element that comes with it, would rather have Hoyer take the reigns if Brady were to miss time.

Good post. Hoyer could've ended up being a savior in Cleveland or Chicago had he stayed healthy. He also played well in San Francisco considering the supporting cast. Don't know why he didn't have better luck in Houston.

Hoyer wouldn’t be a savior anywhere. Not good enough to be a starting qb

Average athleticism, weak arm, poor deep ball, pocket pretense average at best, takes too many sacks, locks on to receivers making him easy to figure out, i could go on.

Just not much to his game other than being a hard worker with a good IQ. But he’s the definition of a game manager. He can only succeed with elite playmakers around him. Just like in college when he fell apart when he lost his top weapons.

Good backup hope he never plays

trading brissett was a mistake. and the return sucks so far. advantage colts. brissett is already a better QB than hoyer. stop trading with the colts. the last two trades with them are a fail. brissett all day.

Brissett 23 years old. Ideal NFL size, above average arm, and above average altheticism. He is the 16th best QB in the NFL right now despite being traded the week before the first game of the season.

Or Hoyer a journeyman backup who has failed in multiple opportunities to start..

Hmm that’s a tough one...

People should stop with the nobody wanted Brissett and he didn’t fit our system nonsense.

First, he was scouted and drafted 16 months before the trade unless you think Belichick is an awful talent evaluator who doesn’t even know if a player can fit his system I do not know how that opinion is formed.

Second, when he was traded the belief was that we could extend Garoppolo. They would have took the larger offers in the offseason if they did not believe that. With Garoppolo here there was no place for Brissett. We traded him for a position of need for a former first round pick who has elite talent but was injured in the early parts of his career.

In the off season and pre season when Garoppolo was playing regularly he probably thought he could continue to wait and was open to a contract extension but when the season started his feelings changed and he wanted to sign some place where he could play. We unfortunately traded Brissett and had to sign Hoyer out of necessity not desire.

He might not have a rocket, but that's an accurate, NFL throw. You've gone out of your way to bash Hoyer in multiple threads. It's getting old.

After a short period of re-adjustment, I'd say that Hoyer is actually best suited to step into the Patriots timing-centric offense than Brissett. Though obiviously Brissett is a QB with more upside & career ahead of him.'
'
No doubt we WILL see a young QB drafted, but I think parting ways with both these QBs was effectively the organization making crystal clear they're "all in" with Brady '

I would think that indeed Brady has made the case to Belichick and the Krafts that he deserves the right to have some input on the remaining years of his career without the "Garoppolo" let alone the "Brissett" question hanging over his head

True, but it doesn't change the fact that, given the choice between trading Garoppolo for more and keeping Brissett or getting less for Brissett while keeping Garoppolo, they chose the latter—and initiated the trade themselves.

so,.. pretty much a blunder trade then?

Hoyer has comfortable lead among Patsfans.com posters...

Yes, there were some mediots and misguided posters who expected us to extend JAG.

Second, when he was traded the belief was that we could extend Garoppolo.

Try trading Hoyer straight up for Brissett and see how far that one goes...

Jimmy G and Jacoby are dead and irrelevant to Pats Nation lets move on already, f*ck the 49ers and Colts and lets enjoy this Blitz 4 Six train thats been rolling

and that means absolutely nothing lmao.
and so does this>>

I didn’t realize this was still an option.

Great thread.
