If you could only have one on the Pats, who would you take?
Assume the circumstance is both were FA and wanted to play in NE for a 4 year deal same money involved but you could only sign one....

Who ya got?

I would take Revis. There are only 4-5 elite CBs in the league and stopping offense is becoming rare nowadays.

Calvin Johnson without a doubt. I'd take the guy that can beat double and triple coverage and gets other guys open then a guy who might be able to take 1 guy away.

Sign a solid corner too ofc.

Assuming it's pre injury Revis, I'd take him. Defense wins championships. You can have the best offense ever and get shutdown by a great defensive team.

Revis. We've got Gronk. For some reason, people forget how valuable this guy is when DBs aren't diving at his knees to slow him.

Calvin and Brady....hell ya

If I hadn't already been blessed with seeing Moss in 2007, I'd have gone with Johnson, no question. Because I've already seen the magnificent Brady-Moss-Welker 16-0/18-1 run, I'm now more interested in what BB will be able to do with an elite CB in the post-2004, post-Ty Law era.

Ask the same question again next year, after I'll have seen the Revis experiment in 2014, and I'll probably switch back to Johnson.

Well, Manning lost a SB. So they might have to a point of emphasis to enforce the typical season rules (against the defense) for the SB or all DBs will have to play with 1 arm strapped to their body.

As for the original question. a Shut down corner can make 1/2 the downfield much tougher for a QB. That frees up other parts of the defense to be more effective. Though, the same goes for a great WR#1 as well. I think our offense is good enough (especially if Gronk stays healthy), so the defense can make this is a complete team with a top 10 defense, offense, and special teams.

Let's go Revis (besides, we have Revis and that's a reality -- Johnson is wishful thinking)

Johnson. All else being equal, I'd rather have an elite CB than a WR of the same talent level, but as good as Revis is I just think that Megatron is on another level.

Give me a shut down CB who can take away one side of the field. They are far rarer than an elite WR although Megatron is in a class by himself.

inverse of what bradyftw feels

this assumes Revis is Jet's Revis

Until Revis proves he's the best defender in the league again I don't think you pass up Calvin Johnson.

Agreed. Give me Revis any day of the week.

I think a better poll would be Johnson vs Gronk. The most dominating WR vs the most dominating TE.

It has been said that Revis makes the whole defense better... stopping the other team is a good thing. How much is being absorbed by Ryan, Arrington, Browner, Dennard and the rest of the crew??

Was going to say the same thing.

Johnson and Gronkowski would be hilarious.

As Deus already said, I saw what happened with Brady and Moss. It was amazing to watch but we know defenses can take away that option. I want to see how this Patriots team performs with Revis out there.

Revis has shut down Johnson, so I would take Revis, pretty clear who is the better player.

Give me the shut down, premier corner every... single... time. Don't get me wrong, it took me a second to come to that conclusion because Megatron with Brady would be just fantastic, but I'll take the lockdown corner that allows Belichick to become more exotic with his defenses every day and twice on Sunday.

Revis every single time...and twice on Sunday !

If this D stays healthy, it could be one of BB's best in years.....

I see a possible SB in Brady's immediate future.
