Do you agree with Brian Billick that "kickers aren't football players"?

  • Yes, kickers are essentially a different breed of athletes that you have to treat differently

  • No, I don't buy his argument (explain why....)

I voted for ....

Some football players kick...and some kickers play football. I think the latter is the norm.

If you're playing football, then you're a football player.

Next, Bart Scott will come out and say kickers aren't tough. Do you know how hard (mentally) the kicking position is? You F up once and you may not recover ever.

Right now there are multiple fan bases that would agree that their favorite team's kicker is not worthy of being called a football player.

That's a good point. It doesn't matter what you can and cannot do talent-wise. If you can step on that field...your a football player.

EDIT: sorry 'twas a twinge of sarcasm

Pitchers aren't baseball players, especially relievers
DHs aren't baseball players
Goalies aren't hockey players
Quarterbacks aren't really football players
Kickers and punters aren't football players

Instead of just saying "X Position is really different from most others in the game, and it can result in players with vastly different skill sets and mentalities", some people take it a step, or more, farther.

@nabwong

I swear kickers and punters get dressed up on Sundays and collect game checks..

Not only a football player but a valuable football player.

If the team is on the +35 yard line in a tight game the quality of the kicker will effect game time decisions both offensively and defensively.

Good kickers will look more like football players as bad kickers keep missing extra points.

I knew most of the worlds population is stupid, but this is $&**@&*+

I like this explanation. Gostkowski definitely falls into the former category.

Non-football players don't dive late into scrums and come up with footballs.

Football players do.

The fact that this comes from someone who is no longer a coach speaks volumes.
