PFT: Patriots, among many other teams, expected to make a waiver claim for Moss

Re: PFT: Patriots expected to claim Moss

Your title is misleading, and you should probably change it. From the article...

Since the trading deadline has come and gone, he is subject to the waivers process. One G.M. told me within the hour that he expects a "boatload" of teams to submit claims.

Since there is a boatload of teams expecting to put in claims, and the Patriots are dead last on the waiver wire then the chances that we end up with him are not as certain as you make it out to be in your thread title.

I'm fuzzy on this but why would we claim him if there is no one after us in line to claim him? Why would we need to? Why wouldn't we just deal with him has a a FA?

Right. It would make no sense for the Patriots to claim him. If the Pats get Moss it will be as a FA signing

Florio's logic, such as it is, is that if other teams put in a claim, and NE doesn't, it might make Moss bitter.

Speaking in regards to the 32nd team in priority in general, I can think of a few reasons:

1) Not wanting to risk losing out on a player based on what may amount to insignficant $ value.
2) Respect for the player.
3) Just to mess with people because you know you aren't going to get him.

I think Moss is smart enough to figure out that if the Pats want him it makes no sense for them to put in a claim for him when they can get him as a FA and save some money. Moss is a very smart football and business guy

Is your point claim versus make a claim? Really? :ugh: You've had better posting days, kon. Anyways, tell it to PFT, I guess.

It is sound logic. Lets say two teams file waive claims -- Pats and Cleveland. And Moss is convinced that the only reason Cleveland picked him up was cause Eric wanted to screw Bill. Well, then Randy might act in such a way that would force Mangini to cut him. (Randy has a real knack for this.) But if the Pats didn't file a claim he might conclude that the Browns were literally his last chance as no other team on the planet was interested in him.

Would the comp pick be worth it?

Yes, although it may seem like nothing to you, people quickly glancing are misled thinking that PFT is saying that Moss is going to return to the Pats.

That and as you pointed out, they're dead last in the waiver wire line so they would have no real reason to put in a claim and pay him the $3.8 million owed him for the rest of the year. If they want him a month after getting rid of him and if he is so hell bent on coming here than they can get him cheaper. I personally think he won't make it to the Pats anyway and even if he does I hope they pass. The guy is becoming unhinged.

Re: PFT: Patriots expected to claim Moss

Personally, I don't give a crap. At least one other team is going to put a waiver claim for the guy. Whether the Pats do it or not is irrelevant because of this. No matter Florio's logic to why the Pats would put in a waiver claim, it really doesn't mean much of anything.

That's an amazing leap to me, but I'll change the the title anyways.

If the Pats get the chance to bring Randy back I think they will jump all over it. You could tell in Moss' PC that he genuinely misses NE and the guys here and is prepared to do whatever it takes to win. With his career coming to an end, without a SB that is what he wants and I think going to the Vikings made him realize that in order to win a SB he is going to have to be a team player and not a selfish one

Re: PFT: Patriots expected to claim Moss

I would welcome him back for the simple fact that i am worried about Branch and his injuries.Welker has basically been a non factor since he left.

Felger's head will explode

Would be pretty funny seeing he already said the Pats would go to the AFCCG without Moss. What would his prediction be with Moss?

Since Randy left , WW is averaging 1.3ypc less, 3 less catches and 20 yard less a game. That is a noticeable drop off no question.

With that said, hes isn't 2007-2009 WW health-wise either.

In addition they have played three very tough defenses in a row and have averaged almost 25 points a game.
