PFT: Bill "has shopped" Mac

The constant drama is outside the building. P Perry said the report was "stunning on many levels". Translation = unlikely and does not fit historical patterns = drama.
Gonna have to disagree. There has been plenty of drama within the organization for quite a few years now. Most recent being the Patricia/Judge debacle. This Mac stuff might be fabricated drama though. Won’t know until someone goes on record.

I wonder when someone will go on record. You'd think this would push Bill to come out and say "Mac is our starting QB" if he believes that he is. If we get no response, or if all we get from Bill is "Mac will compete for his job" then it really does not squash this. Most likely Bill's response to trade questions will be something like "I'm not going to discuss conversations I've had or not had with other teams about any player."

The Athletic is reporting that Mac is not being shopped. Gronk was asked and he said he has to believe it is fake news. But I am sure Asante Samuel and a few around these parts believe it.

Yes, and then he got to camp and crumbled when he found things had changed in a way he didn’t like. He’d folloed the script and done what he was supposed to but didn’t get ideal results handed to him on a silver platter and he couldn’t take it.

That's about of a stretch. He got judge and Patricia. And we now know from the herald how much of an unmitigated disaster it was.

They barely ran an NFL offense. It wasn't just players "not buying in" it was the coaches had no clue and were running a Madden offense

i dont know if there is a thing in cba you cant trade players if they sign a fa but mac is not getting traded this year in fact bill might be gone before mac
As long as they don't have a no trade clause, you can trade players that sign as a FA.

Part of me wonders if BOB is cool on Mac and IF there have been trade talks is more related to BOB's assessment of Mac than's Bill's
Listening to Doug Kyed's podcast further, he mentions talking to a source the other day who said they didn't think Mac was a good fit for BOB and what he'd want to run.

Maybe the stuff he ran when he had Watson with the Texans, but Jones seems like a perfect fit for what O'Brien was running with the Patriots, in Alabama, and with the Texans when he had Hoyer as his starter. But people universally agreed that O'Brien was the best OC for Mac as the starting QB.

So a source who said they didn’t think Mac was a good fit fir BOB which could be completely off base and the source could be Mickey Mouse turns into Pats shopping Mac. And this site buys into it 34 pages long.
I always said I tune into this site because their are many smart and knowledgable members
What I’m learning is their are more drama queens on this site than knowledgable ones

If Zappe can run it better, I expect he’ll have full opportunity to get the starting job. If Zappe does win the starting job, then the trade Mac talk will become a lot more real than it feels right now.

I agree. My question was redundant. He's a 1st round pick heading into year 3. Sorry folks, if you're not at least the given starter by that point, then you're not going to be a franchise QB.
That's a ridiculous statement given the state of the Patriots' offense last year.

And I'm no big fan of Mac Jones.

The comment I mentioned from Kyed has nothing to do with Florio’s story.

One thing that sticks out to me is the realization that Jimmy Garoppolo has no signing bonus. He could be traded today and the Raiders would have absolutely zero dead cap hit. Seems a little farfetched but the Raiders and Pats could swap QBs if they wished to... and McDaniels just brought in Hoyer who has been Mac's quasi-QB coach for two seasons... and the Raiders would gain $20M in cap space...

Seems like a stretch but it's definitely possible, financially.
Why wouldn't BB have just traded Mac to Josh and signed Jimmy G?
Just doesn't make sense to me. Sure, now Josh wouldn't have to give up a pick to get the guy he wanted, if he wanted Mac, but there's some real gymnastics to play out as to why BB just didn't get Jimmy and worry about Mac later.

Josh: “You good with a 3rd for Mac?”
Bill: “I’d take it but Bob will throw a **** fit if I trade Mac for a 3rd.”
Josh: “What if I sign Jimmy to a decent contract with no dead money and then we reconvene in a month and I send you Jimmy + a 3rd for Mac? Makes no difference to me financially.”
Bill: “Sure, just give me enough time to get the media hyped up about Mac being on the trade block so no one’s shocked when we do it. We can act like we just came up with it then.”

That's the kind of gymnastics that would have had to happen.
But there's one other issue there: I doubt Jimmy G signed with Vegas to move to New England.

And I'm no big fan of Mac Jones.

It's also a ridiculous statement if anyone has even watched the NFL. Jaylen hurts, josh allen and Tua would've been off their teams if that was the case

The comment I mentioned from Kyed has nothing to do with Florio’s story.
First and foremost I see you as one of the knowledgable posters.
But Florio supposedly is tied to Kyed about this story. My guess is Florio is getting his info from Kyed.
Then Kyed makes this statement.

Kyed says in that same video that when he saw Florio report on the shopping of Mac Jones his first instinct was to think "man, I waited too long to contact this source about a rift and now I got the info too late". There's a chance they have the same source, nothing indicates Kyed is Florio's source.

He hated the pick as soon as it was announced I never saw someone be so against a franchise QB pick before.

He kept saying watch he’s the worst.
The soft as silk pajama comment was made before he even took a snap as a Patriot.
QB’s picked at 15 or later should never be viewed as a likely franchise QB. If that was the consensus, he would be drafted higher. He was seen as good enough to be taken in the middle of the first round and has played slightly better than most QB’s taken after pick 12.

In the last 12 years, it’s guys like Jake Locker (8), Blaine Gannett (10), Christian Ponder (12), Tannehill (8), Brandon Weeden (22), EJ Manuel (16), Deshaun Watson at 12 was a steal- despite his issues, Josh Rosen 10, Lamar Jackson (steel at 32), Dwayne Haskins 15, and Kenny Picket (20).

Mac looks fine in that mix of guys.

I didn’t include Paxton Lynch or Teddy Bridgewater, taken at the end of round 1 or Baker or Darnold, who were taken high and busted, so far.

This is what Kyed said in the podcast as I transcribed it in the thing I wrote:

“I had kind of just been like putting it off, I knew it was something I should, like, put out there,” said Kyed. “And then today, Mike Florio initially posted something about there being tension between Mac Jones and Bill Belichick.”

“Actually, first Rotoworld posted about it, and then Mike Florio did, and then I was like, all right, I should probably reach out to some people about it, see if there actually is [tension]. And the first person I talked to actually was like, ‘Yes, there’s 100% tension. There’s tension on both sides, this is real.’ And that person casually mentioned that Bill Belichick had tried to trade Mac Jones. And I was like, yeah, that’s kind of crazy, I don’t know.”

“People say things like that all the time. This is a reputable source and everything like that, but it was just like, kind of out of left field, something I would have to confirm from a few other people or whatever. And then literally five minutes later, because I had reached out to someone else about it, literally five minutes later Florio tweets this out. I’m like, ‘What the Hell?’ It’s been five days since this story first broke. I decide to finally get off my ass and do something about it 10 minutes ago. I found out this piece of information, which I was like I’m probably not going to do anything with this because I doubt that I’ll get it confirmed on the team’s side, and then Florio posts it.”

“So really, I wouldn’t necessarily feel comfortable putting that out there. The one thing I would put out there that I did get from more of the team’s side is that, ‘well, we haven’t gotten anything that we’d take.’ That doesn’t mean anything that they’ve gotten anything, that there’s been trade discussions, basically just, ‘We haven’t moved him yet.’ I don’t know exactly where I stand on this.”
