Peter King: Why NFL Should Give Back Picks to Pats (But Won’t)

Now Yahoo and NBC Sports are running a piece titled "Patriots Won't Get Picks Back and Brady May Still Be Suspended" and its running on the banner here. Viewer warning, it's the piece written by The ****** Tanguay that ran earlier.

Well, while Tanguay is a troll (and I'm not going to read the piece), nothing in that headline is incorrect.

"They cheated. The PSI tests proved that."

I always like to point out to the haters that if you take the psi data, the ideal gas law, and especially the ERROR BARS of the pressure measurements,

Not only can we not conclude whether the Patriots took any air out of any footballs or not, we ALSO cannot conclude whether the Patriots ADDED any air to any of the footballs or not.

There is as much physical evidence (ZERO) for a deflategate scandal as there is for an alternative and equally imaginary INFLATEGATE scandal!

Agreed, but it's still Tanguay and he is a complete piece of sh.t.

When 19/20 opinions that come out of your mouth are contrarian or sensationalist by nature, you aren't being "objective" or "insightful" you are just another contrarian/mediot playing a game of "look at me I'm different!".

Shame of it all is that this seems to be a formula for success in today's media.

I think they started with the "story" and worked back to the 0.23 psi.

Whether or not they were ignorant of the IGL or the effects of weather on a football I still don't understand how the whole thing was initiated. Was Harbaugh (or somebody) ignorant of the IGL and reported what he thought was ball tampering and the league followed through thinking they had something on the Pats? Or did they know they could sell the ball tampering story because of the IGL and just manipulated the measurements etc...??

The amount of screw ups by Goodell and the league throughout this story is pretty staggering, to the point where, 1/2 way through the "letter," I found myself thinking "There's more?" And I've been paying attention to the story.

I realize the letter format adds some drama to the events, but if the points raised by Hurley just appeared in a list, any rational person would realize the league's behavior was, and continues to be, deplorable.

Who knows? Your guess is as good as mine. Personally, I think there was a rumor in the league that Brady had people tamper with the game balls. Then Irsay and Kensil orchestrated a sting at the AFCCG. When the balls measured what they should have measured by the IGL, Kensil thought he "had" the Patriots and made the leak to Mort, who thought he had struck gold...a lot of yada yada yada later, we now know that the balls were at a lower pressure because they SHOULD have been at that pressure, but the damage was done and the owners insisted on pursuing a case that was eventually exposed as a fraud, even when they knew or should have known the truth. Now the NFL appeal is focused on Goodells right to do what he did, irrespective of the truth. We've gone down the Rabbit Hole and through the Looking Glass. Why is the NFL getting away with this? Because most people want to believe that the patriots cheated and don't want to hear anything else.

lol at that Hurley piece. He should of ended it with How do you sleep at night?.

If a majority of owners want the Patriots to get their picks back ... they will be returned. If a majority of owners say the Patriots can rot in hell then it will be so. Roger Goodell's opinion ... actions ... lack of actions has little to do with it. there's no way he takes action on his own ... he has 32 bosses and the job is a high paying breeze.

Goodell is a piece of crap ... but he gets way too much credit for original thoughts - good or bad.

Well said. This is all one needs to know about the dumpster fire known as Deflategate.

That being said it would be interesting to know how much progress Kraft has made in this area ... if his strategy is to isolate Jones, Johnson, Benson, Snyder etal and portray them as bad for the league in terms of trying to gain power to bully the other owners he may have a shot ... Goodell as the attack dog for an ownership faction is not good long term.

Getting the picks back will help neuter the disgruntled owners .. Kraft has already been neutered. Once they smooth out the ownership power struggles that have been partially created by the owners own pettiness they can hire a new commissioner and start fresh ... this is how I see it playing out.

Far fetched perhaps ...

In any case nothing happens until the court date.

may or june.
Don't be surprised if it's not until September. The Appeals Court rendering the decision on the Petersen issue has been at it for more than 5 months and still nothing..

Oh, that's a lovely thought...waiting for the verdict all summer long (again). What a bunch of ******** this has been.

To any who missed it, read the above article. Every time I found myself thinking, "yeah, but..." there is a shielded shot at another Goodell/NyjFL soft spot.

I glossed this over myself until recently. Isn't the +/-0.4 psi?

If that is the case....

Edit:
*To anyone who thinks the NFL did not meaningfully subdue the communication of the facts:

The NDA over the true measurements and BLATANT lies to the media suggest otherwise. Wells' assistant (or whoever that science starved bimbo on his media conference call was) arguing "both gauges have the balls too low," (in so many words, dismissing the logo v. Nonlogo gauge) after wells had been called out for his POS report. Go listen to wells' coached media conference call after the report hit the media, some idiot woman claimed both gauges render the pats guilty. Zero, absolutely zero understanding of SCIENTIFIC LAW, pertinent to the case. We are not talking about the "ideal gas theory," yet we are discussing the "Ideal Gas LAW." Scientific law. Indisputable facts. In lay man's terms, "What ****ing happens to inflated things in the god damn misery that is winter in New England; your tire pressure sensors beep on cold mornings."

Edit: That said, not sure why I quoted you PF74. I just left it there figuring I included it for a reason? May have quoted the wrong post, methinks....
