-Brady made a lot out of the little that his line gave him to work with. There were numerous communication issues of offense, but I expect them to get those straightened out. If there weren't, we could easily be talking about a 3 score win. Hernandez spoiled a good performance with what turned out to be a big drop.
-We need Spikes back in a major way. Mayo is not a physical force against the run as far as shedding blockers goes, and Fletcher is no Spikes. His return should put an end to the problem we saw on the ground today. 170 yards!! Our pass D is bad enough.
-Too much soft zone coverage. This is driving me nuts. Even the worst QBs will figure out how to pick up big chunks of yards. Can you imagine what Brees, Rodgers or even Roethlisberger would do? I suppose that speaks to the level of talent in the back. I know they really struggled with man earlier in the year but I would like to see more man looks mixed in as well as more blitzing. Most of the looks we showed were primarily 4-5 rushers and Mark Anderson dropped back on a few plays. Don't outthink yourselves.
Overall, while Brady and the WR/TE group are outstanding, there is a lot of work to be done. There is a certain level of physicality I see across the board from teams like NY, BAL and PIT that we don't have. Its missing on the offensive line when we try to block for the run plays, and its missing on defense when we try to rush the passer. This concerns me. We're going to have to find a way to bring that to another level if we expect to emerge from the AFC. Otherwise, the gap may be too much for Brady to overcome.
