Pats Trade for Haynesworth (merged)

Once again this is the IF AH plays to his potential.

This defense has basically just added to last years D:

Starting LDE (warren), RDE (AH), CB (Bodden) and Potential nickle back (Ras I).

That looks like it will have a posative effect on our Run and Pass D

[. If he plays, we're in like Flynt. If he reverts to being a headcase, or his trial goes bad, etc, then he's outta here and we're no worse off.

Hey Gweed usually the saying is we are in like Flynn but now that you are wide awake
I am sure you are referring to Larry Flynt of Hustler mag. Good One

You must be young,b72s.....gweed was correct,he just misspelled Flint. The term "In Like Flint",
comes from the 1967 spy/comedy classic of the same name, starring James Coburn. It has come to mean:In the know,In the groove or inside the right place.(sorry,I'm old and have been using this phrase since the 60's).

Jets fans will give their "oh he's more headache than anything else" but if the Jets acquired him then they'd proclaim that they have the "Best defense ever!" (and we'd say he's more headache than anything else)

Obviously there's a chance that it doesn't work out, but BB's track record is actually pretty darn good in these situations. BB has a way of rehabing malcontents.

I'm not sure how much I like this move. It doesn't cost the team much, but this guy has issues. It will be a challenge for sure, and he will improve our D-line.
It will be interesting to see how this all works. Hopefully he shows up, this guy is known for taking time off.

And IF AH plays, Sanchez is going to look like a scared kitten out there.

I thought the saying referred to Errol Flynn and his trial for something like sexual assualt.

Maybe both are correct.

I'm in this mode as well. Can't get that image out of my head of him lying on his face on the turf while the play goes on around him.

If he turns out to be another Moss-type rejuvenation project in New England, it could be a turning point for this defense. So we'll see, I guess.

Not reading this entire thread however I think people have forgotten that the Pats also signed Marcus Stroud earlier this year.

DL: Warren (G & T), Wilfork, Hanesworth, Stroud

Every QB in the league --> :cry2:

I can tell you who i haven't seen posting on this thread... jets fans. They have been quite active on the forum since the news about holmes and the talk about them getting asomagah... i am sensing a little wee coming out when they saw the news this morning. Always silence before the BB storm

The stomping event from 07 worries me too. Hope he's ring shopping as others have suggested because there isn't much to indicate, motivationally, that this guy can be a useful part of what the Pats are trying to build. OTOH it is a low risk very high reward move, although if he's $5M against the cap I hope he isn't cut before the season starts. I'm hoping this suceeds in a manner similar to the Dillon acquisition.

Wow! I mean WOW! Albert Haynesworth, when his head is screwed on right is a DOMINANT defensive lineman. And we got him for a song. A 5th rounder in 2013. So many echoes of the Randy Moss trade. Can Haynesworth turn it around? He's got a core of supporting players on defense, but he can be the finishing piece. Passrush? Hayneworth has got it in spades and its of the collapsing the pocket, rip off the QB's head variety!

Next let's see us sign OchoCinco and throw another vet OLB into the mix. This Pats offseason has started off with a BANG! Talk about a headliner move. I really didn't expect this from BB. He never ceases to surprise me.

It's a big IF, like Moss was an IF, but if Haynesworth plays like he did in Tennessee, do you see the pass rush solved? I do.

Haynesworth isn't really a pass rusher. He had 8.5 one year and never had more than 5 any other year. What he does give you (when he feels like it) is a player who applies pressure at the line, makes tackles in the backfield and makes teams run the other way. He is also mean and nasty and insane to the point of being dangerous at times.

But, now that he is a Patriot, I suspect that he will be described as an inspirational member of our community who stops to pat kittens and works at soup kitchens in the off season.:singing:

Sweetness. Hope we get the old big al. If so, no one and done this year. Indianapolis here we come.

I'm psyched to see what kind of defense fronts the Pats will use with him. I think this signifies that the Pats are going to play a lot of 4 man fronts - which is fine with me because I am sick of the elusive search for the perfect 3-4 OLB.

I am picturing a Big 4 front of Cunningham, Haynesworth, Vince, and Warren/Wright on early downs. This front should be extremely tough to run on and should get an excellent push in the middle of the pocket. Haynesworth and Vince will both command a double team and this should open up some inside blitzes. I can see Ninko, Moore and even Arrington at DE on passing downs.

The 4 man front I think allows Guyton and Mayo to flourish in their pursuit abilities rather than to have to stack and shed OGs in the 3-4.

HOLY FREAKING CRAP

:bricks:

If he brings a good attitude here, our D is going to be ROCKIN IT this year.

Poll: how many people when they saw this thread thought it was another joke thread?

Just changed mood from brooding (over last year's loss to Jets) to amazed!

Great low risk move in my opinion. A 5th rounder will have a hard time making this team due to how young and talented NEP's are. Other teams fans will be hoping he is a cancer and blows up our locker room. What they don't realize is - that if Haynesworth doesn't tow the company line, then he will be gone before you can say, "call the moving company". No season long soap opera drama like what unfolded in DC.

The only real question I have is - how long will it take him to pass the conditioning test? Guess that also signals that Gerrald Warren is unlikely to be resigned. Though probably he would be kept on shadow 'speed dial' roster.
That became a running joke last year. He basically used that as an excuse so that he didn't have to do anything all preseason long. This guy took being an a-hole to another level last year

I can't wait to see him pound Mark Sanchez into the ground

that in itself would be worth the trade

Talent-wise this move is a no-brainer: Haynesworth is as good or better than any defensive player we have. But it's hard to swallow because Haynesworth has behaved so poorly, worse than Dillon or Moss to me. He's trashed his teammates, let down the team, sulked for weeks at a time, cruised through play after play with near zero effort, probably exaggerated/faked injury, failed to make an effort to stay in shape, showed no respect for his coach, the law, or the fantastic opportunity life has handed him.

I want to scream and yell for the Pats unequivocally but people like AH don't deserve our cheers, let alone the $$ the Pats now have to pay him.

I'm all about redemption, and perfectly willing to grant AH another chance. But to work for me it has to be real, he has to own up to his pathetic history and humbly ask the fans to judge him as a blank slate from here on out. If AH rolls out a defiant, leave-me-alone attitude I will have to hope BB cuts him, soon.

I did not like this trade originally, but it's starting to grow on me.

If we get Tennessee Albert, it will be lights out for the opposing RBs. If we get Washington Fat Albert, eh not too much harm done.

I guess this means no Marcus Stroud this year. Oh darn.
