Pats sign TE D.J. Williams (edit), waive DT Marcus Forston, CB Justin Green

Per Field Yates:

To make room for TE D.J. Williams on the roster, the Patriots have released DT Marcus Forston, according to a league source.

That's good news, because that means the Pats have not given up on Hoomanawanui being able to return and play again this year. I would rather lose Forston than Hoomanawanui.

With Miami signing A.J. Francis, Forston could take his place on the practice squad once he clears waivers. The Pats actually have two spots open on the PS: Forston's spot, and the one that had been taken by CB Justin Green before he was moved to the 53-man roster last week.

And as soon as I wrote that Justin Green was released as well.

It would have been far more surprising if he stayed on the 53-man roster than not.

That leaves one more open roster spot, while Green and Forston will presumably be signed to the practice squad tomorrow.

I suspect that we'll activate Davey (OT) from the Practice Squad. With Cannon hurting, this seems to be a good idea.

I hadn't thought of him, but that does make a lot of sense.

Man, Pats depth keeps getting shallower.

How much more in the form of injuries can this team endure and still keep winning.

He hasn't caught on because he sucks. He couldn't get it done with Rodgers, so it's not as if the fault is all about Gabbert.

Maybe he'll turn things around in N.E.. It's far more likely that he'll just continue to suck.

I think he'll be really good. Diamond in the rough, ninkovich style.

Forston released

Disappointing that he's never been able to stick, especially now given the DT shortage.

On the plus side, it's probably a favorable comment on Sapoaga's health, even though they're different kinds of DTs.

Listen, D.J. McWilliams may have not been a good pro TE yet, and may never become one, but he certainly has a ton of talent. You don't win the Mackey Award without having talent. But I will say this, I'm rooting for this guy, he's been through hell and back, and he's a fine human being. He's the anti-AHern. Watch this.

Gronkowski and Hernandez so 2011 – D.J. Williams and Mark Mulligan now that’s 2013 :rocker:

Had the FO performed the easily doable tasks of signing Joseph (nephew of Christian)
Fauria as a UDFA instead of Zach Dudfeld, and then Dallas Clark immediately after
The Prisoner was arrested, we would be relatively set at TE.

I've been looking for Nick McDonald to come back healthy since the preseason. I hope that his time is now.

I share those same thoughts and hopes with you, and am looking forward to seeing McDonald added back to the team if he's now healthy. It seems to me that his knowledge of our system, along with his versatility to potentially play all 5 positions is a very good thing. Those are certainly positives even if his talent and skills still need a bit of work.

Forston & Green back on the Practice Squad.

Mike Petraglia @Trags
RT @jeffphowe: Marcus Forston cleared waivers and is rejoining the #Patriots practice squad, per source.

Jeff Howe @jeffphowe
Whoops, already happened RT @DougKyedNESN: Cornerback Justin Green has re-signed to the Patriots' practice squad, according to a source.

With all due respect, put yourself in Fauria's shoes back in April. All other things being equal, where do you see an easier path to landing a job: New England or Detroit?

For all we know, the Patriots made an offer, and Fauria chose the Lions.

Fair point, though in April it was probably already clear that Gronk was not going to
be ready for Opening Day. OTOH, Bill also probably figured that at least one of
Ballard & Fells would be able to help fill the void during Gronk's absence.

I'll give the FO a pass on Fauria if they indeed made an offer to him. Not signing
Dallas Clark, however, is still inexcusable.

Those who had "One week" in the over/under poll are winners!
