Pats probably will need to play BOTH Pitt and KC in playoffs

I've been monitoring this... it sucks. but it's pretty reasonable to expect that the broncos could beat the raiders and the chiefs could be the chargers and then we'd be playing a garbage QB in the divisional round
Please keep monitoring it and get back to me the instant we know the Chiefs snuck into the 2 seed. thank you

I think having a year where the Broncos and Ravens are out of the playoffs is rare...and I am so thankful for it.
Asking for more bad things for other teams would seem downright sadistic.
The Broncos suck and I would pray to be facing them if possible at home. PItt and KC much worse

Ben hasn't really done anything in the playoffs in six years. We might be giving them too much credit.

I think Denver has mailed it in. Oakland gets the sweep.

Denver is in Jets mode...

The Broncos want to give their fans at least this win at home. So they still have something to play for.

It reminds us of our 2002 season-ender vs. Miami:
Defending champs out of the playoffs and trying to close out the year on a positive note at home vs. a playoff bound division rival.

ok lol I've been aware of the situation and paying attention to it... I'll let u know how my monitoring goes

On a side note, this makes me even more upset about our AFCCG loss to Denver last year. The SB win validated Elway's "free agent frenzy" over the previous few years (Manning, Sanders, Talib, Ware, etc.).
Yes, I truly hate Denver since the 1986 playoff beat down in Foxboro.

Elway has done a hell of a job there. One of the best in the business. I don't think he had a lot of experience before taking that job either.

matchup wise KC is probably the toughest one left in the AFC. think pats can easily take pitt on their home turf. and the other teams have backup qbs starting for them. regardless of who they play, it would be a disappointment if the Pats don't take the AFC (barring injuries)

Looking at the playoff calculator, if Denver and the Chiefs win, the Chiefs would end up the 2nd seed and the Raiders would be the 5th seed. Miami is the 6th seed regardless. The game against the Pats does not change anything. So, Miami will be in Pittsburgh and the Raiders will be at Houston. I see Houston and Pitt winning and the Texans to come back to Foxborough for their annual beating. KC pitt will be a dog fight and KC will win and come to the Patriots for the AFGCG.

Wrong.

They have to face us

Sirrously... KC is more the "unknown" here, in comparative terms. Over the years I've become comfortable (as a fan) when I see the dreaded Pixburgh Steelers in our way.

It's the guys you're not sure are "for real" that can rear up most easily and make you go, "Damn! They had more than I thought!"

Personally I think this team goes to the SB.... but of course, there are well-paid, well-coached teams with heart and football smarts and everything else you need between us and that goal. That's a given.

Guess we can all relax now, since "we better hope" we don't see Baltimore... and since they can't even punch their ticket, we wont...

You play who you play.

If the potentially 14-win Pats can't beat the Steelers and Chiefs, both games being at home, then this team was 2010-circa soft and we can cue up the "they were never tested in the regular season" argument that so many are peddling around here.

Then again we may end up drawing the Dolphins and Texans...

Anything can happen in the playoffs and I'll take my chances with a pissed, focused and determined Brady and Belichick.

Anything less than a Super Bowl win for this team, especially in this season, is a failure of epic proportions.

Really?
He beat a solid Cincy team last year.
He played better @Denver than TB12 did (supposedly with a hurt shoulder).
I just looked up his stat line in the AFCDG: 24/37 for 339 (no TD/no Int) and the Steelers were in the thick of the game the entire time.
I think the Steelers play up and down to the level of competition and Ben has tremendous talent around him to be able to challenge us...but I expect TB12 to put up 33+ for the win.

it's fun though, it's what fans do...espn playoff machine makes it simple
Agreed. I love this stuff. We speculate all year about whom we might play in January and now we can generate realistic scenarios in week 17. It's a lot of fun and gets me fired up for the postseason in general.

The Shanny years were the hardest... those were the years where I was sure he just plain had our number.

And let's not forget that Denver put an official end to our initial run of super bowl victories, and I believe broke TFB's "never been defeated in the playoffs" aura. (We coulda been a contenda!)

I know we are getting of the topic of this thread, as it is not meant to be an "I hate Denver thread."
Elway has done a great job...but that SB win last year puts the jewel in his crown.
If they lose in the AFCCG last year*, this is his 5-year return on huge investments (that talent is aging and the check will hopefully come due, soon).

2012 Lost AFCDG
2013 Lost Super Bowl
2014 Lost AFCDG
2015 *Lost AFCCG (won Super Bowl)
2016 Missed playoffs

I think he would be looked at more "always the Bridesmaid" Elway who lost the SB 4 times (3 as a player) vs. "Super Bowl Champ" Elway with 3 rings (2 as a player).

I'm fine with turning any thread into an "I hate Denver" thread.

Also, feel free to go with "I hate Baltimore".

"I hate Jets" is OK but too easy these days.

The defending champs weren't out of it that year. We just needed the jets to lose and Brett F*#!ing Favre totally laid down and got his ass kicked by 40 points. There was an unbelievable but true statistic in the fav stat thread since 2001 the patriots have never played a game they were not still in contention for the super bowl.
