Pats offering #23 & #47 to Jax @ #8 According to Peter King

Heres something i dont understand. Everyone is for grabbing a player at #8 in the draft, isnt that big money? Why would the Patriots put all this money into a player who is not even proven in the NFL. This is riskier than trading for Peppers!

There's a big money drop, generally speaking, from #7 to #8, and it's a pretty reasonable amount of money to pay if you think you're getting top shelf talent.

The top 6 picks in the draft are the true HUGE money picks, maybe the 7 pick. By the 8th pick in the draft the salaries are not out of control anymore.

Crabtree is falling like a rock, between his foot surgery and his prima dona attitude.

I've soured on Crabtree because I absolutely HATE primadonna attitudes. But ya gotta figure, If there's any team in the league that could handle a very talented WR with a 'tude it's the Pats.

If Crabtree goes to Oakland (or most teams) he can be like "I'm the best WR here by a long shot." and be an ass knowing the team has to tolerate it. Here he'd be like "Wow, I'm the 3rd best WR after a future HOF and 100+ catch guy. And I've got a HOF QB & HOF coach (who won't take any $#it). I better not mess this opportunity up."

And Moss can also say "Hey kid, I've been there. You can either be a newsworthy a**hole like T.O. or if you work hard and listen, a superstar like me. I've been both. Believe me, I'm happier now."

We really don't need another top-notch WR. But Moss & Crabtree on the outside and Welker in the slot would be like porn for football fans.

Am I the only one who thinks the more likely trade is with NO, who doesn't pick again until the fourth round, in order to nab Jenkins? I mean, I like the idea of trading up to 8 and either 1) making a fortune if Sanchez is still available, or 2) drafting Curry if he's still there (ideal situation, in my mind), but I don't think it's plausible. Jenkins makes a lot more sense. Need + talent + supply meets demand = successful trade for both parties.

This is a VERY certain possibility, but if we are going to grab a CB in the first round my Binky is Darius Butler!! Hes faster than Jenkins and more agile also, Im a Homer and my NCAA team is UCONN so bring on Butler !

Not really buying that they are going to move up to 8. Could see them moving up to the teens, but unless a team takes a discount on trade chart points I do not see them jumping all the way up. Trading up to 8 or in the high double digits, however, was something I had not considered too much until today. Crabtree may be, as stated above, the Diggler needed to turn Brady and Moss into the leads of "Patriots Boogie Nights", but the guy I instantly thought of when I saw this today was Malcolm Jenkins. Big, physical, proven, productive---he is a future standout at corner. All that being said, I am still interested on seeing the Patriots pick up 4-6 really good players from the 20-100 range. I think this could be like the 86 Niners draft that restocked that team with a lot of good young players, from Tom Rathman and John Taylor to--speaking of porno fans---Charles Haley.

Here's to looking forward to the draft tomorrow with great anticipation, and to never having a locker right next to Charles Haley.

It depends on our target.

I think that trading 23 + 58 to NO for Jenkins is quite possible. NO is reportedly torn between Beanie Wells, Brian Cushing and Jenkins. They have no 2nd or 3rd round pick. At 23 they could probably get Cushing (who Don Banks thinks they are leaning towards anyway) or Clay Matthews, and get a safety which they badly need with the #58 pick. If we want Jenkins it makes more sense to target #14 then #8. Matt Bowen from NFP speculates that the Pats are targeting Jenkins in their trade up to #8 approach, but I don't think it makes sense. GB at #9 was an option at one point, but I don't see them going CB at #9 right now.

But if we want to get Curry, Raji, Jackson, Crabtree or a top OT then #8 is much more realistic. And if Sanchez is on the board then we could potentially trade back to #13 with Washington and target Jenkins there.

My HOPE is that the Pats can turn some of their picks into a top 8 pick in next years draft. Why? T-A-Y-L-O-R _ M-A-Y-S! If he was in this draft, he would have to be at the top of my draft board, followed by Tyson Jackson, Oher, Andre Smith and Aaron Curry.

So....

23rd pick and 58th pick for the Saints' 14th pick. Which has value to the Patriots if they are targeting Jenkins, but also valuable to any team looking at Josh Freeman (including the Jets, Bucs and Vikings).

Just like moving into the top 8 could be valuable to any team looking at Matt Sanchez. Problem is, there is talent at both 8 and 14 that could tempt them to make a selection and not leverage for more in the future. 10 minutes goes fast.

Don't overlook the idea of Knowshon Moreno as the target if we trade with the Saints. He's going to be a superstar and no one expects the Pats to trade up for him = the perfect explanation of a BB move, right?

That could happen. But so could this:

1. Stafford QB
2. JSmith OT
3. Traded to Washington - MSanchez QB
4. Monroe/ASmith OT
5. Raji/Jackson/Curry/Crabtree
6. ASmith/Monroe/Wells/Raji
7. DHB (or Crabtree/Maclin, or possibly Raji or an OT)
8. One of the OTs/Raji/Curry/Jackson/Crabtree

We should get our choice of at least one of a franchise OT, a franchise DL, or Aaron Curry at #8.

I don't think there is much chance of the pats going up to 8 and then moving back to 13 with a deal from Washington.

Jacksonville isn't going to pull the trigger on a deal with the Pats until Sanchez goes off the board or when they are on the clock at 8 with him on the board and they determine no one is going to pay them more for Sanchez than the Pats are offering. If Synder is going to make a Snyder like move to get to 8 Jacksonville will prefer that to 23 and 47.

I still would love to come out of the first round with Jackson. 5 technique DE's are hard to find and Jackson is the only real one in this draft.

I know we could go in many directions, CB,DE,DT,OT etc. I have to admit WR is not a need but can anyone imagine Crabtree learning from BB,Moss and Welker? He is being compared to Michael Irvin already.

Moss isn't going to last forever, Welker is extremely tough, but so are the players pounding on him in the slot.
Having the next generation of star WR on the team is excellent planning for the future.
