Aqua, sometimes you make it hard to give the Dolphins any credit. I'm with you on the Dolphins, I really like their defense and I could see them finishing the year at 8-8 or 9-7. It is hard to say that though because you're just so freaking annoying.
Joey Porter is not an impact player. It is arguable from our standpoint if he ever was, as NE has played him quite a bit and never had to give him much thought. He's older now to boot. The only thing he gives you is a false sense that you were the better team even though you lost.
I understand your issues with using points allowed to judge defense. It isn't fair to the team with a crappy QB (last year's Dolphins come to mind) who turns the ball over inside their own territory.
You have to recognize that ypg has major issues though. Red zone defense, which is extremely important, is completely ignored by ypg. In reality you're better off allowing two 60 yard drives each ending in a FG than one 80 yard drive ending in a touchdown but ypg will tell you you're better off allowing one touchdown drive. another issue of ypg is that it ignores a defense's ability to generate turnovers. The entire world agrees that turnovers are hugely important yet your favorite measure of defense ignores it?
I'd rather deal with a system which penalizes a defense when the offense turns the ball over (and even in the case of a turnover a good defense will limit the other team to a FG, which doesn't really skew things that much) rather than one which fails to reward a team for red zone defense and turnovers.
