Pats not trading Garoppolo - Schefter

Lol. No one knows at this point. Bill's a better poker player than these other gms.
Huh?
What does that have to do with anything?
You said he is keeping him and cutting Brady after 2018 but Jimmy g has one year left in his contract.
How do you propose a poker player fixes that dilemma?

Regardless of what happens,it's a win for the Patriots. They get blown away with an offer, they trade JG for big loot.
They keep him they have a guy with the potential to be one of the best QBs in the NFL.
He's still tradeable next year but they won't get as much for him for several obvious reasons. But maybe having him as insurance is worth the reduced draft capital they'd get next year.
I don't buy TB telling them he's retiring after 2018-that totally contradicts what Tom has said many times and all the work he's put in.
So if JG is not traded this year, it seems pretty certain he'd be traded next year.
He MIGHT be tradable next year. There will have to be over 20 mill in cap space to franchise him. Then someone has to trade for a guy they know we would have to cut if no one trades with us.

Well, yeah. That's why I said the Pats would get a lot less for him next year. They give up most of their leverage.

Heres the thing you hold on to him to see how Brissett looks next season and how a 40 Year old Brady looks at the end of this coming season.

Unless you get 2 1sts or more

Deep draft for the positions we should be looking at. Still think this is posturing, doesn't make sense to keep Jimmy. His value is at its highest. Glad this came out, which means we will get a haul when's it's all said and done.

Just read Reiss' latest. His personal opinion(and he made clear it was HIS opinion/tea leave reading, not BB's)was the Pats will keep JG for 2017 unless they get an offer they feel they can't turn down-his interpretation is a2017 1st rounder plus a conditional 1st rounder. Fwiw

Remember when they franchised Cassel? Belichick said something like 'I'm glad Mike is going to be back with us', when he knew he was trading him.

The part about a "league source" -- does that mean another team contacted the Patriots and were told they weren't trading him?

So two firsts make Brady younger?

Thanks. I'd want to read the small print in the section with the "conditions" around that "conditional 1st rounder." I'd be OK with something like, "Consistently puts pants on one leg at a time" or "Typically walks by putting one foot in front of the other."

To what end? Are you cutting Brady after 2017?
Are you saying having JG on the bench for 1 year has more value than what you could get in a trade?

The only way keeping him makes sense it to give him a long term extension during 2017 and tell Brady thanks but we have had enough of you.

"Matt has been a pleasure to coach his entire career and last season in particular, when his years of hard work and commitment resulted in a most impressive performance," Patriots coach Bill Belichick said in a statement. "We look forward to working with Matt again in 2009."

Patriots place franchise tag on QB Cassel (sorry, BSPN link)

What's up with the "back up" crap as a justification for another team to low ball the Pats for JG. Tom Brady was a back up. Brett Farve was a back up. Steve Young was a backup, Johnny Unitas was a back up Drew Brees was a back up.....need I go on.

I see all this crap about JG who has 3 years in the league PLUS some successful game experience, yet they have NO trouble about using a #1 pick on a QB who they KNOW won't be ready in 2017.....if EVER. Just check on the success rate of first round QB's I'd be surprised if it's 50-50.

2 things make be believe the Pats will trade JG this off season.

a. While all QB's are a risk, the risk of JG failing is MUCH lower than any first round QB pick, and the ceiling is just as high. He is absolutely worth a first round pick

b. If the Pats keep JG beyond the 2017 the Pats will have to invest close to $50MM in the QB position for the 2018 season. Do any of you honestly believe the Pats will accept that.

Shakespeare gave us a phrase to fit the Schecter report. "much ado about nothing"

The " back-up" crap, as you called it is about PatriotsPimp repeatedly saying that getting a top 15 pick for Garrapolo is getting "fleeced," and that anything less than multiple first round picks is a bad deal. I like Garrapolo but he is a back-up and getting a top 15 pick, and especially a top 3 pick, is getting a really good return on a back-up QB who only has six quarters of live experience. And saying that Garrapolo is a back-up is simply stating a fact, as he is the back-up, he isn't the Patriots starter.

I agree. Reading the messageboards of the projected possible trade partners reveals fans who think it would be gr8 to use a top 1st round pick on one of the college QBs, all of which are flawed and won't produce the 1st year, if ever, yet don't want to use that same pick on a QB who can produce his first year, and has as much chance as their rookie, or better, to be their long term answer at QB.

It seems that once a player is drafted, for some people, that becomes his de facto value for his entire career.

Gotta wonder if Brady was on the market, there would be people who would use his 6th round draft status as grounds to not overpay.

@RyanHannable
Adam Schefter on @OMFonWEEI: "Jimmy Garoppolo is going to be on the Patriots in 2017 no matter who calls them and what anybody offers."
This may turn out to be true but I can also see the Pats feeding Schefter complete and utter ******** if it serves their purposes. I won't believe any of this drivel until week two.

To me I get the sense from Lombardi and others that The Pats know JG is a stud and are sending a message to other teams in the context of: you passed on D Carr and this is your second chance sweepstakes. Come strong or dont come at all.

Im not rulling anything out when it comes to Belichick.

You can rule out that.
I can't be sure
Lets take emotion aside 41 Year old TB after this year 26 Year old Grap
I think alot of fans know how BB will end this movie and spoiler alert its a tear jerker.
If they trade Grop then obvioisly TB is playing at least 3 more seasons.

I think BB wants at least another year to evaluate all 3 QBs and thats smart in my opinion.
