Pats fans suffering from 'playoff fatigue'

I've been to a lot of playoff games over the last ten years, going to one tomorrow and I am pumped and jacked!

Probably a combination of a slow news day, and the author being a Pats hater.

Boston Globe = Dan Shaughnessy = Boston Red Sox = Joe Sullivan = Late Will McDonough (Friend of Whitey Bulger, Enemy of Bob Kraft)

The masses take what they read at face value and don't understand the business/social background to all that.

Of course they will publish a piece like this on the eve of the Patriots first playoff game.

Should one expect anything different from The Globe?

I dunna know.

I recall there to be a bit of a wane in the excitement for the Sox in 2009, 2010, etc. Big reason why they went out and got Carl Crawford, A-Gon, etc.

I remember a bit of lag when the Celts were riding high in the late 80s.

When WW went down in 2009 I recall the fan base being totally dejected. Remember a number of empty seats at Gillette and a ton of Ravens fans in attendance.

If it was known that there were 1000s of unsold tix then maybe there might be some truth to it.

This year? Could be wrong but I don't get that sense. This is a team that the fan base has a ton of respect for, is likeable and has (dare I say it) a little bit of an underdog story going.

That article is hilarious. So people are getting a better deal on tickets. How terrible!

more a symptom of sick and tired of having their still beating hearts ripped from its body after another gut wrenching play off defeat fatigue.

There's some truth to this, I think. It happens.

I went to the Superbowl in 04...Houston was half-Pats/half-Panthers. Great atmosphere.

In 05, Eagles' fans greatly outnumbered us. If you crossed the river into downtown Jacksonville wearing pats gear, you were taking your life into your hands.

Going into the stadium, all you could hear was "Soar, Eagle, Soar," or whatever that stupid song they sing is called.

My friends at the game told me it was the reverse of 01, where Pats fans dominated Rams fans (who had been at the Superbowl the year before).

That would be the pink hat bandwagonners.

Notice how the Globe never does any stories about how the Patriots pre season and regular season games absolutely lap the Red Sox playoff games in TV ratings.

Nope. That always comes from ESPNBoston.com, the AP, or any other outlet.

A lot of Patriots fans are only Red Sox fans by default, to suggest that the two fan-bases are analogous is a fallacy

playoff fatigue is one of the biggest oxymorons i've ever heard of

Are there some fans who, after getting the opportunity to witness so many playoff games, have lost the interest to pay hundreds of dollars to see it in person again? Absolutely.

Are there enough to matter or warrant an article as though it's some crazy phenomenon? Absolutely not.

Really poor example those obviously are not home games. Simple fact is the Eagles travel as well as anyone in the league and not only were they sucking up the available stock for SB39 they were also driving prices up. You can not compare Philly or Boston to Carolina and St Louis when it comes to traveling to follow your team.

No playoff fatigue here and in fact I am thinking about going to my first road playoff game not including SBs. If we are playing in Denver I will look into flights and ticket costs and if it isnt to bad I am going. Doesnt hurt that suposedly I can get pot at a corner store while I am there.

I'll take Playoff Fatigue over Cellar Dweller Mania any time.

I'm not an economics major or anything, but isn't this the basic principle of "supply and demand".

The Pats have supplied many more playoff games to their customers (fans) and hence the lower ticket prices.

Trying to come up with a lame correlation between ticket price and fan loyalty/enthusiasm is just sily. A clear example of someone 'fishing' for a story.

That article is about as pure as a load of crap can get. The Globe is back to its passive-aggressive ways of trying to undermine the Patriots and their fans. First Shaughnessy's recent bullshyt column, now this. Can it be any CLEARER that the Red Sox-owned newspaper has a competitive agenda? Screw them. As for that poor beleaguered "fan" whose photo accompanies the piece, I think Kraft should revoke his season ticket privileges.

Playoff Fatigue is like getting tired of dating hot chicks (or guys if you are a woman). Sure it's ok to not go to a game every now and then because you've been there, but there are plenty of people who will be willing to go.

Call me when they have broken their consecutive home sellout streak. I believe it began in January of 1994?
