Not sure I see a lot of connection between Bourne and Thornton. Also, not sure I'd call Bourne a mistake. We didn't have any of Polk, Baker, Osborn on the roster at that point. Thornton and Boutte hadn't shown any level of competence yet (and honestly, still haven't to a huge degree). And outside free agents obviously didn't view us attractively. We had to have something in place. I think Bourne was/is a good signing for them in their situation.

That said, I also hope we trade him lol. Or more descriptively, I hope the young guys play well enough to where trading him is something we can realistically consider. I'm really hoping that by the end of the year the 5 young guys all look like NFL WRs (Douglas, Polk, Thornton, Baker, Boutte) to where Bourne and Osborn are no longer needed. And if either has trade value, take it.

I don't think there's going to be any roster crunch because of Bourne, he hasn't practiced once and starting the season on the PUP seems like a sure thing at this point. Osborn isn't getting cut if he's running with the ones, there's a better chance he's out there starting on the first play in week one. Boutte is up in the air, they have too many redundant WR's, they might sneak him on the practice squad.

Jalen Reagor looks the part and he can play on ST's he's a former First Rounder I would take him over Boutte. Reagor is also a speed guy we need another speed or X if Thornton gets injured Reagor is that guy.

There is a famous quote that there are so many DBs because they would be WRs if they could catch a ball. High pointing and diving for a ball is a skill that is very difficult. Not all WRs and DBs can teach themselves to do it. Randy Moss made it look easy which proves the point that there is a real skill involved.

For those that care and don’t like being surprised: Thornton has 0 catches through two preseason games.

Are they holding him out so that he can make a few catches in the regular season before he is lost for the with an injury?

Well it's a given that Bourne is gonna start on PUP, and we need at least 1 veteran WR to start the season. I wouldn't call Douglas or Boutte veterans. So looking at it that way, Osbourne has an excellent chance of sticking.

Flip it around Reagor offer ST's value Boutte offers None! easy choice. You can't get creative with your Roster with one dimensional players like Boutte. Who knows Reagor might finally get it also I don't see a Team looking to add Boutte on their active roster.

So, having just cut 30 players, teams will jump at signing to their 53 someone with unknown and untapped potential, NOT

See, I actually think the opposite. Reagor is more likely to get claimed, IMO. He's got a role on an NFL roster as a kick returner and someone who's been a starting WR before. He's actually an "ideal" 5th WR when you get to slotting out gameday active roles and who fits where. Boutte, on the other hand, is probably just a straight gameday inactive in most places. He isn't good enough for too many teams, if any, to pencil him into the top 3 or even 4 WR spots on their depth chart. If you're a #5 WR or lower and can't play special teams then you're just a gameday inactive and my guess is most teams around the NFL already have a developmental 5th/6th WR that's been immersed in their playbook that they'd take over Boutte. But with Reagor, there's probably a few teams that could use the kick returner part.

The argument for Osborn over Boutte (or other young guys) would be just to have someone out there who's been around the block some and won't be making the same rookie/young player mental errors as the other guys. Particularly if Maye is in there.

Personally, I think this team only needs one of Bourne/Osborn because I think collectively the young guys have shown enough promise to where they can fill out the 4 gameday active WR depth chart in 3 of the slots along with the one vet. So I'd keep Bourne on PUP to start the year and go with Douglas/Polk/Thornton/Osborn/Baker/Boutte all to start the year. We have other kick returners and Reagor has no long term importance or potential. When Bourne comes back, give him Osborn's spot unless Osborn has played well and/or the other young guys have been such dasasters that you need to keep both.

From various reports I have read from training camp is that Maye and Osborn have had quite a connection. If true, I feel like you have to a guy the is bonded with the rookie QB.
