Pats claim WR Michael Floyd

That's funny, he had no problem taking money from Jim Irsay and he was found drunk and asleep at the wheel with a bag of cash and another bag of prescription drugs, and oh yeah, his mistress died of an overdose in the apartment he was paying for.

The Colts are the biggest scumbags in football, they need to shut their pie holes.

WINNER

Can someone on "Myface or Yearbook" send what Ivan wrote to every journalist and website out there, please?

Those pious condemnations from Polian and Saturday are the highest form of public hypocrisy coming from two men who felt no guilt whatsoever cashing checks for over a decade signed by someone with a public danger rap sheet 10 pages longer than Michael Floyd's.

I think those two should take a long look in the mirror and be ashamed of themselves.

I have no idea, man. Seems weird for a team to get full considerations for a comp pick for a player who is only with the team for 3 games.
agreed

thought i read somewhere it has to be an accrued season with that said team,

A few years ago the Pats desperately traded for a DT from SF, Isaac Sopoaga. He left before he became a FA the next year and the team that signed him, Philly I believe, got the comp pick.

* Edited to show the correct name now that it was mentioned down thread.

Accrued meaning under contract I assume? That makes sense to me.

Stubblefield? I remember they kicked the tires on him.

yes, you have to be on a roster for so many games for it to count a played season
Ive been looking for the link where i read it but cannot find it

Very interesting thread of 30 pages length, for a guy who might make significant contributions to this team on a long term basis, or who might be out the door as quickly as Griff Whalen was, or something in between. Add to that the interesting behavior of the other teams who passed on him with some hoping he might make it through waivers, and the cap implications, and the whole issue of alcohol abuse, and it's a real page turner!

The problem is that it was a mistake that could have cost somebody there life and that is unforgivable. A very selfish and inconsiderate decision. He is fortunate that he is not doing any jail time. Drink drivers are very very dangerous to public safety.

Him being addicted to it is HIS problem. Nobody held a gun to his head and said drink it. Alcohol is poison and should be avoided at all costs. I have seen it destroy families and that is why I never have and never will drink it. Damaging your body and paying for it at the same time lol how intelligent, not to mention how vulnerable you are when you are drunk. I hate this signing. We had big vince leave pulling people from car wrecks and now we got this punk passed out drunk on the intersection with the engine running being a huge threat to public safety... absolute madness. The cops should gave got him out of the car and beat his ass for being an ass or I hope they did.
You had me, right up to the last sentence. However bad the DUI is, "street justice" is worse. The drunk is disgracing themselves, the rogue cops are disgracing themselves AND the entire legal/justice/enforcement system.

I don't know how this guy made to NE in the waiver wire, it's almost like GM's around the league want the Patriots to win the SB and shove it in Goodell's ass. There's a lot of teams in need of a player with his skillset and even if they weren't it's always nice to have a fast, tall and physical receiver.
Great post. I also wonder why other teams didn't want to take a chance on getting a few games with and the inside track for next season on a very talented dude. I think most of them would want to stick it to the Pats just as much as they'd want to stick it to Baddell. From the Cards point of view, are just doing what they thought would make their team better, just like we did when we offloaded Chandler Jones and Jamie Collins. Clearly they've answered the question about what they planned to do with Floyd without having the off-season drama and perhaps calling him out as one reason why they're having a ****ty season. That's fine, we've done reclaim projects before quite successfully, and if he doesn't fit in, he'll get cut as quick as Griff Whalen did.

Most of us have seen the horrific, damaging affects of alcohol abuse on familes. I know I have. It's obvious you have, also. However, addiction is a disease and, as such, isn't entirely a path that an addict chooses. Floyd needs treatment, structure and a solid plan for recovery. Your contention that his addiction is (entirely) his problem/fault is incorrect. I'm not absolving him of blame, but addiction is much more complex than pinning it on one cause or factor. There are other contributing factors such as environment, education, the way one is raised and nurtured and, perhaps most significantly, genetics. As a life-long Pats fans for nearly 60 years, I hope Floyd becomes a successful and contributing player for us. But, my larger hope as a human being is that he gets the necessary treatment and support and recovers.
Thanks for your considerate comments and congrats on being a long-term Pats fan. I agree he needs such things, but in the end, he also has to decide that his behavior has been very harmful to himself and to others, and he then has to then make the changes in his life that allow him to move forward. As the old saying goes, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink (or in this case, not drink!). I hope he does decide to make the necessary changes.

I don't think hes upset at all. I think hes"managing" Floyd's expectations and now he needs to acclimate to a new receiver but setting the expectation that the receiver needs to acclimate to HIM. With that said, after losing Gronk I think Tom is all good with as many top-notch receivers as possible at his disposal.

To get into Tom's good graces, you gotta earn it- just like JE11, Hogs, DA and seemingly MM.
... and we've seen so many leave without ever doing so, most recently Dobson.

Also had no problem with Dominic Rhodes, who was arrested for driving 85mph in 50mph zone while drunk.

Yep. Kinda funny how so done this team is with Dobson that they drop $1.3m on a guy for 3 ( actually 6 ) games who passed out at an intersection hammered.

I tweeted Saturday to tell him how full of sh.t he is.

Plus in 2010 P Pat McAfee was ****faced in public pissing in the bushes and Polian took him back with open arms after he spent a game in Goody's penalty box.

He's such a dink

Isaac Sopoaga. The facts were different - and turned out worse for us. He had been with the 49ers and signed with the Eagles as a free agent. He got benched and the Pats traded for him.... Where he subsequently wound up getting benched in favor of Sealver Silinga.

Anyway, even though the Eagles were the ones who signed him, he counted against the Pats compensatory pick formula since we traded for him before the year was up. He wound up cancelling out a FA we lost, and thus we lost a 6th round comp pick.

So these comp pick rules don't make logical sense around the edges (and really don't make sense at all in my opinion). Floyd would count in the Pats formula if he survives the season and leaves as a FA, regardless of how many games he plays.
