Very interesting thread of 30 pages length, for a guy who might make significant contributions to this team on a long term basis, or who might be out the door as quickly as Griff Whalen was, or something in between. Add to that the interesting behavior of the other teams who passed on him with some hoping he might make it through waivers, and the cap implications, and the whole issue of alcohol abuse, and it's a real page turner!
You had me, right up to the last sentence. However bad the DUI is, "street justice" is worse. The drunk is disgracing themselves, the rogue cops are disgracing themselves AND the entire legal/justice/enforcement system.
Great post. I also wonder why other teams didn't want to take a chance on getting a few games with and the inside track for next season on a very talented dude. I think most of them would want to stick it to the Pats just as much as they'd want to stick it to Baddell. From the Cards point of view, are just doing what they thought would make their team better, just like we did when we offloaded Chandler Jones and Jamie Collins. Clearly they've answered the question about what they planned to do with Floyd without having the off-season drama and perhaps calling him out as one reason why they're having a ****ty season. That's fine, we've done reclaim projects before quite successfully, and if he doesn't fit in, he'll get cut as quick as Griff Whalen did.
Thanks for your considerate comments and congrats on being a long-term Pats fan. I agree he needs such things, but in the end, he also has to decide that his behavior has been very harmful to himself and to others, and he then has to then make the changes in his life that allow him to move forward. As the old saying goes, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink (or in this case, not drink!). I hope he does decide to make the necessary changes.
... and we've seen so many leave without ever doing so, most recently Dobson.
