Either way that brings the total to 6 DTs which isn't that outlandish.I'm thinking this is not a favorable sign for the health of Easley, and possibly Jones and even Siliga, none of whom has played recently. Wondering if they need bodies to rotate through the FLA heat?

I think it is more along the lines of just keeping the Interior DL fresh. Remember there were a lot of games where Chris Jones and Joe Vellano were playing 80-95 percent of the defensive snaps.
Gotta go with JMC on this one. NE's lack of DL depth last year was a primary contributor to the defensive issues later in the year. Bill is just doing what he can to ensure that doesn't happen again.
Wouldn't be surprised to see one of Gaston or Quarles dropped and a LB added relatively quickly.
Sure, great to have seven DT's you can rotate.
Of course, it then raises the question on the LB's. The team could easily go from playing Jones/Silinga/Jones/Ninkovich at 90% of the snaps, for example, to Mayo/Collins/Hightower playing 90% of the snaps.
Or you could say the same about Wilfork's health.I'm thinking this is not a favorable sign for the health of Easley, and possibly Jones and even Siliga, none of whom has played recently. Wondering if they need bodies to rotate through the FLA heat?
Wilfork has been playing, whereas Easley, Jones and Siliga have been out with injuries. If he wanted a plethora of DTs to begin with, why release Kelly? I guess we'll see Sun.Or you could say the same about Wilfork's health.
I think it's more about a lesson learned last year than anything else really.

I see your point and have no good explanation, I just think he is heavy on DTs. I think a DT goes when the LS is activated (but perhaps a S).Bringing up Kelly hurts your argument more than it does ours. If it was a health thing then why release a guy that has been in the system for a year?

I'll take a DL with some depth that rotates to keep guys fresh and Collins and Mayo playing 90% over the opposite.
Damn. Thought Gaston was more of a "tryout" claim but I also thought Quarles was more of an "upgrade the 53 man roster" claim. Oh well, could be a good sign about the DL health.
Mike Reiss ?@MikeReiss 7m
Former Patriots long snapper Danny Aiken worked out for Broncos on Tuesday. Aiken now back in Mass., & strong possibility he re-signs in NE.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Aiken and White re-signed.
