We should start recording coverage stats for who can put the clamps down on as many threads as possible with some line that brings up the Buffalo drives/punt stat.

Thank God we have so many people reminding us or we might actually move on to this season. Can't be having that.

Would you be happier if we beat Buffalo and got trounced by KC the following week?
Yes, I would prefer an outcome that advances the team to the next playoff round.
Call me crazy

Note: Your thought process fascinates me and explains a lot

It was a bad loss, but how does that loss have any real bearing on this season other than Buffalo is still a very good team?

The team that will take the field against the Dolphins will be vastly different than the one that got destroyed vs Buffalo, especially at the positions that were the most overmatched in that game.

That's not what I said. You left out an important part of my question. I asked you whether you cared whether we LOSE in the first or second round. I didn't ask you if you wanted the team to advance to round 2 (of course everyone does). That's the difference between you and me. To me, anything short of a super bowl is not worth writing home about. Sure, there are positives to take out of last season but it's not the end of the world if we lose a playoff game. You seem to think it's some moral victory to beat Buffalo and then get plastered by the Chiefs in round 2...that's like asking a prisoner about to receive the death penalty whether they prefer to die this week or next. It doesn't matter. The outcome is the same.

"Which positions weren't overmatched in the 47-17 obliteration?"
Sincerely,
Aldous Snow

Fantastic article:

Later, wide receiver Nelson Agholor and offensive tackle Nelson Agholor both exited the practice area with members of the training staff. Both eventually returned but did not reenter competitive drills, watching the rest of practice from the sideline.

************, this site is infected by so many insufferable chicken littles.

Yeah, people read way too much into the preseason.

I can't remember if it was 2003 or 2004, but I remember the Patriots defense played so poorly in the second preseason game that Belichick made the starters play for most of the game where the other team pulled their starters by midway through the second quarter. Those two years had two of the best Patriots' defenses in Patriots' history.

And I also remember in 2007 that Moss struggled in training camp and got injured they shut him down and people were even talking about him being cut on the final cutdown. He went onto break records that season.

I don't put much stock into training camp and the preseason. It is concerning the offense has struggled, but I don't make definitive judgements until the Pats play 3-4 games and see if they fix things.

Agholor is going to have to add some weight to play tackle.

It isn't just preseason. Outside of some joint practices with the Panthers I haven't heard many glowing reports about the state of the team. One of the few players I was hearing singled out for good performances on a regular basis was Thornton and now he is hurt for 8 weeks. I know everyone wants to whistle past the graveyard and act like having two guys who were never on the offensive side of the ball call plays on offense with our second year QB but it is hard not to have some concern at this point.

Everybody has some concern. What gets expressed, and its tonality, and the balance of concern vs. optimism, is the issue.
Its a kids game being played by a bunch of adults who couldn't care less is everyone on this forum fell off the edge of Kyrie's Earth.

Well if we're looking at it through that lens then it is a whole different story but most people who care enough to post on a message board are really into the team.

Fans forget that the coaches are putting their players in a position to fail in practice, in a position to work on weaknesses.

It does them no good to work on the few things they're already really good at. The Pats have been working a lot on the redzone, been working a lot on things they need to improve. That's the point of practice, steel sharpens steel.

Other teams/OCs have created hybrids (Tom Moore, Adam Gase) come to mind but yea...this seems like a project.

On top of which he has to clean out the toxic football culture left behind by Gruden where mental mistakes not only went unpunished, they were simply ignored.

Huge task, to say the least.

Comments:

1.) Good to know that Harris is okay enough to "mingle" with other players.

2.) I am happy that this is the LAST open practice for the media. Man, the Boston media is insufferable....

3.) No injuries on Friday night please.

4.) We are onto the Dolphins! T-Minus 18 days, baby!!!

I read somewhere that the pats big wins came when they were running shotgun formation which I read was traditional pats offense . What does that mean ? Does that mean we reverted to tried/tested plays instead of the new plays that are getting designed? I am football novice with regards to this, so if any football need can explain this, it would be great.

Shotgun formations, or formations (where the players position themselves, pre-snap) in general have little to do with the type of offense run. You will see the same type of formations in very different offenses. Formations are used in combination with personnel combinations (WR/TE/RB) to produced a desired mismatch, or exploit a weakness. This is the jumping board for the offense/plays being called, after which, it's all about execution.

Typically our offensive philosophy has evolved with the talent we acquire or lose over the years or in response to what the rest of the league is doing, offensively or defensively, but at center it's been pretty much the same. It centers around the Erhardt Perkins football offense philosophy which is built on "concepts" offense, starting with formation, protection, and one or two combos (concepts) to either side of the ball. These "combos" are routes that compliment each other. Depending on the amount of experience the players have in this system, it can be very simple or VERY complex. In Brady's last few years here, and especially when Edelman and Gronk were still a vital part of the offense, the EP was stretched to its virtual limitations. McDaniels could just keep dialing up different combinations of play/formation/personnel, one after another, to infinity, like he did in the SB vs. the Rams.

But when you have all new players, and a QB with just 1 full year of experience, there's bound to be growing pains.

Again, it isn't either/or. I'm totally into the team, love to spend time and energy on this stuff, but don't become despondent every time something could possibly be interpreted as a future indication of possible results.

Not sure me getting tired of the same line parroted over and over again is the same as me not acknowledging last season gave us some things to worry about going into this one.

That's the thing. We've acknowledged it. We all have. And trotting around that line post after post does nothing. Get over the games. We're just hoping for the best team we can get. That isn't ignoring the facts, that's just what normal-ass people do every day when trying to enjoy their favorite team in their favorite sport.

Later, wide receiver Nelson Agholor and offensive tackle Nelson Agholor
"This is my brother Daryl and my other brother Daryl". Maybe this is a sneaky way to bust the 53 man limit - name the extra guys the same as someone already on the roster.
