We've been bitten thus far with injuries on offense which, combined with what will undoubtedly be uneven QB play (either because it's Cam or it's a rookie), means the defense is going to be the major reason we do (or do not) go anywhere. Thankfully, I really like this group too. If the DL additions make an impact, this could be one of the better front sevens we've had recently.

No worries! You guys were slacking off, so I decided to step up …actually, I was just bored.

the stat that stood out to me was the fact that this "walkthrough" was only the 13th practice the Pats have had in TC. Back when I was a HC, we would have over 13 practices in the first week of camp and that was for a HS team. So when I look a this or ANY team at this point, I have to keep that in consideration. This team is barely a team that this point and what we see or talk about at this point MUST be seen as early days. We cannot make so many "absolute judgements" about players based on what we observe to this point. .

This is the problem for coaches under this CBA - Very little time to evaluate player. Very little time for player to develop and improve, Too many fans take a snapshot of a good or bad play and decide this is what a player is and will always be, Damien Harris was a bust as a rookie. 2 years later and he's our "bellcow" RB. Sometimes it just takes time,

I agree re: evaluation. I would think that any NE fan would know - by now - that even though a 3-4-5 round RB doesn’t play much in year one, it means very little going forward…

I take These player interviews with a grain of salt. Players are coached up what to say.

Yeah I looked last night there was no information about the practices being open. The Eagles had tickets for their Aug 22nd practice for sale on their website.

That sucks was wanting to shoot up there for a day and watch one.

Simply adding verticality in the offense isn't the key solution because it requires extra time. It's being able to get open (usually quickly) against man coverage AND for Cam to know where the pressure was coming, identify the hot route, and deliver the ball (and not just turtle or look to run).

I would amend your statement to "if the WRs/TEs are able to expose the press man/eight in the box looks by breaking some long gains...".

I don't think seven step drops, max protect to throw the ball 40 yards downfield is left out of the options to break that coverage type, but it's NOT the sole option nor the sole player to break the other team out of it (because they can just double him). A TE seam route for example is another (again has to quickly and decisively beat man coverage or the route disruption against short zone by the DL/LBs). A team effort is required.

In simpler terms - to reduce that type look...the Patriots have to execute a passing offense at all three levels of the field (short/mid/deep) - which they could not do last year.
