Right. That report from Lazar saying that the receivers just aren't getting separation is concerning. Though our DBs are REALLY good.

If I understand things correctly, they've basically been playing red zone offense so far, with virtually no running game happening. So the defense has little field to defend, and they know everything will be a pass. It's not "realistic" in that sense and makes life MUCH easier for the defense. We should expect good cover guys to win a LOT in these conditions.

I like Zappe....and wouldn't mind him winning the job, but this is a piece of garbage.......no supporting arguments cited other than, "Mac is the only one who threw an INT"; "Mac's camp is splicing video to make him look good"; "Demario Davis is dominating because of Zappe's passes"; and/or "You can see it for yourself at camp! It's open to the public!!!"....

To be fair, anyone with a pair of eyes (or even one good one) could see that, too. But it's clear we'll be depending on the running game and BOB's ability to design receivers open.

I don't claim to know better than anyone, but I am hopeful that BOB will help Mac and the WRs put it together enough to be a decent offense this year.

How often is he throwing a pick and going aside that would require a special QB coach since I think they have a QB coach, it could be Judge if that is the case then they should get a QB coach.

The analogy is for me is Mac sits down, gets his next assignments from Obrien and goes over why they are off the field. Qb coach comes in and addresses his footwork, his progressions, his internal clock, his blitz options when the D attacks, the wind, the matches or mismatches.

I do not find it concerning. There is no running game, so the defense is off the line of scrimmage. The defense only has to defend the red zone. You might notice that the defense is always in the back corner of the endzone? It is like the defense has practiced against this offense for years and knows the plays, OH WAIT, the defense has practiced against this offense for years and knows the plays. Of course the defense is going to win all of those battles.

I think it's really interesting the way they started in close redzone, and then moved back a bit. Obviously RZ was a HUGE problem for this team last year so it makes sense. Gives our already very good D a leg up and really challenges the O. Kinda like starting off running in water or with weights on an then you take them off and feel fast. When they finally give the offense space to work I bet we are going to see some playmaking emerge.

A receiver like JJSS is 6'1" tall and the typical "short" DB is 5'10" tall. With arms extended that gives the receiver about a 5" advantage. The offense starts at the 20 yard line and Mac backs up to the 25 to 30 yard line with a 5 step or 7 step drop. To the back left or right corner of the end zone is about 40 yards (I will spare you the math) and Mac has a 5" window to hit. Remember that the 5'10" DB knows the play so he is waiting and jumping to minimize the 5" advantage the receiver has. And you think if it is difficult to complete that pass, there is a legit concern? Please.

JJ had multiple jump ball break up vs Parker, the Pats X WR who is supposed to be a contested jump ball player couldn’t even manage vs small CB Jones. The WRs are a concern, but we can circle back during the season. I’m sure it’ll only take a few weeks to become obvious they’re a lackluster group.

You might be right. But this is not a situation that indicates that. There is no running game. The defense knows that is only a pass possible. The defense knows the plays (Trent Brown said they were back to a Patriots offense). So in this situation missing jump balls in not an indication of the season.

I am higher on the WRs than you, but it could be more ideal I agree. If Douglas works out, the group becomes a lot better. And Strong was catching passes this week. If Strong can catch passes out of the backfield with 4.3 speed, that will help a lot too.

As to the WRs we have on hand:

- I am not expecting much separation this year. The only guys that can separate are Thorton (with straight line speed), our shifty guys in Bourne/Davis (with underneath routes), and Parker/Geisicki/Henry (with their bodies and hands).

- Then there are our backs in Stevenson/Montgomery/Strong to catch balls in the flat.

- The wild card for me is JuJu’s YAC. Remember how he flipped that game in Pittsburgh before we got saved by the TE’s ruled non-catch at the goal line, and Duron Harmon’s interception/touchback. Fun game.

- And like alluded to above…the run game should set up some mismatches for us to exploit.

It's like BOB had them immediately address the most glaring issue...the red zone.. the red zone was a weakness offensively and a strength defensively last season obviously.

So it's not a wonder the defense is making it tough.
