And Edelman is considered whose backup? Seems like three players for the slot. Wes wants to get paid, and rightfully so, he has been quietly working for peanuts for years. Factor that with his age, diminutive size, and the beatings he takes regularly...I don't see us signing him unfortunately.
Salas, Lloyd, Slater...gronk, hern. Who cats about the wr designation with what could be the most prolific te tandem in quite some time...
In a pass happy league where defenses seem to be sacrificing size for speed, the pats are stockpiling tight ends with a stable of young rb talent. Maybe wrecks is onto something with the ground and pound (granted the pass is needed and an oline trumps both...).

From '07-'12, Welker's averaged $6.9 million a year. That might not be ful market value, but it's not peanuts.
