Patriots trade for dolphins Isaiah Ford [released 12/5]

They acquired depth at a time they were running out of WRs for a conditional late round pick in 2022. Then the starting receivers got healthier and another player -- Moncrief -- leapfrogged him and made him redundant.

It was a good move in terms of emergency depth as nobody knew how long Harry would be out and additional injuries could happen anytime. It also didn't really cost them anything valuable. One trade down in the fifth round and they have that pick back again.

Literally not much to see here..

Ford probably sucked at special teams so bill dumped him... Can't have anyone on the roster that can't be a gunner or play on the field goal team

Hard to see a downside. Ford is on the team, an effective use of a 7th round pick two years from now.
You see it now, don’t you? He’s no longer in the team, and we may have burned a sixth-rounder in 2022–not a seventh.
The Bills used to do stupid stunts like this. Now it’s us.

Has that been confirmed? I read "conditional draft pick". I would assume that since he was cut, we don't owe the Dolphins anything.

It has been confirmed to be a 7th.

My belief is that they had to report it to the league as a "conditional 6th" because their 7th was already conditionally traded to Detroit for Michael Jackson. When that pick officially doesn't go to the Lions for Jackson, then it can instead go to the Dolphins (rather than the 6th) for Ford. It's somewhat comparable to how the Jamie Collins trade was for a "conditional 4th" because the Browns agreed to trade the compensatory 3rd that they hadn't officially received yet.

Cue Felgy !

Can a person be a Dolphin and then not be a Dolphin and then be a Dolphin again.

This reminds me of when we gave a 5th for a reject center Russel Bodine a couple years ago from Buffalo who never played a snap & was gone in days.

Love coach Belichick
Not so much GM Belichick

Jeepers Belichick has been getting WORKED in the trade dept for a few years.

Didn't make sense when they made the trade and doesn't make sense now lol. I guess just another one in the long line of buffling personnel decisions, but at least this is only for a low round pick.

That's really weird to loose a 7th round "free of charge"...

Another pathetic WR personnel move. Add it to the endless list...

Most of the trades (such as the one for Ford) are of so little consequence, they are not worth worrying about. On the other hand there were far more hits a few years ago than there have been in the last two years.
