Patriots Player Departure Patriots trade Dugger too lol

This also shows just how clueless the ‘khan artist’ is in Pittsburgh. They need a safety who can cover, did they bother to actually research on kyle?

@Ross12 and @mayoclinic have it right. For Dugger specifically, they save about $5m in cap space in 2025 and $9.75m in additional cap space in 2026, when factoring in that they’ll be replaced by a minimum salary guy for now.
Yeah, I wasn’t really counting next year’s salaries since they weren’t guaranteed so I was figuring they would both be cut next year if they were still here at the end of 2025.

Exactly. They pruned some dead wood and rewarded a solid performer. Wielding both carrot and stick at the same time.

Whether they add any player(s) before the trade deadline they’ve made three good moves in a few hours today.

That's entirely too reasonable. Please get with the program and up your vitriol game

What's going on with the 6th rounders for two guys who can actually play and be solid depth players (IMO)? They now have two open roster spots on defense - who is coming in to fill those roster spots?

Nah, I’m finding it hard to be in a vitriolic mood when every Sunday I get to watch Drake Maye, T.Rex Campbell, Marcus, Gonzo, Diggs, Boutte, Milton, Chaisson, et al.

Sorry if looking ahead at the future they will give us to enjoy is getting with the wrong program. But I’ve often been out of step, as usual I’ll just wait for the rest of you to catch up with me, lol.

White has not shown that.
It’s arguable whether Dugger has shown he can play to the level of his salary, or how well he can play at all. He’s given up some big plays iirc. This looks like a salary dump.

Doesn't make a ton of sense to me if they're eating money, and honestly even if they aren't. At least as of right now.

Talking about the cap this saves next year is "fluffing" things up... all of that could have been saved by cutting him after the year as none was guaranteed. The only actual savings by trading him are his remaining salary this year which is only about $5M I believe... and that gets replaced by whoever they sign and we're reportedly eating some of it too. So we're talking about a very insignificant amount of savings and now we don't have a backup safety.

Unless he was a bad attitude guy, which he didn't seem to be, I'd have just kept him for this year unless they're bringing someone else in. And even then, I might still have kept him because why not.

Did the Steelers take on the whole contract??? Cause that would actually be HUGE!
People tend to exaggerate his contract. It's not that bad for a starter. He's at around $11m whereas the market is around $20m per at the top. If you use him right as a strong safety, $11m is not bad for whatever team takes him on.

Yeah, if they are eating a significant amount of salary then that changes my view, and I’m landing where you are. Not sure the upgrade from a 7th to a 6th round pick would be worth it in that scenario unless he’s truly putting up a stink behind the scenes.

More trades incoming?

Personally, I always thought people overrated Duggar around here. He had a decent knack of making some big plays, but got burnt a lot. Last year, he lost the knack to make big plays and just got burnt a lot.

I wish him the best, but the Pats needed to move on. Hopefully they can find another safety before the trade deadline.

Pittsburgh has always had these type of safeties going back more than a decade.

They don't drop 2 safeties back. One is always attacking.

Yeah i don’t like hearing that we’re eating cap. They could be eyeing someone who will cost roughly the same and be a better fit in our defense. Or a more significant upgrade to the position. This could be more about just clearing the spot and getting the one round trade up next year than the money.

If I understand it properly we are eating it this year but freeing cap next year.

Both of these trades are culture moves. Vrabel only wants guys who want to be here, there's no room for malcontents. Duggars deal also played a role in moving him.
