I just don't get this signing . What happens to Bourne . Is Bourne a part of aiyuk trade package where we trade bourne + 3rd rounder for 49ers to get aiyuk and 49ers eat 10 million of aiyuk 's cap space.
You don't get the signing because you don't get x's and o's of football. Bourne and Hollins do not play the same position. Wait, what? Yes, its true. Bourne is a Z or slot receiver. Hollins is an X. Bourne plays either on the inside or on the move away from the LOS. Hollins will pay the outside. He is 6'4". Ideally, we would would have 2 X receivers, a Z, and slot or TE on the field. Aiyuk is also an X. Boutte and Polk tried to play X last season, but its not their natural position.
Other than he sucks....they suck....it all sucks.. can you elaborate on why you think they suck? But Bourne & Hollins both Suck; so what difference does it make what designation is attached to their names?
I called this a while back. Had a good year for McDaniels in Vegas. Prototypical X receiver build and play style, even if he isn't good enough as a starter there. They need someone who can at least play that position though so all the slots and Z receivers they have can play their proper positions and develop in them.
Many pointed to Nick Westbrook-Ikhine because of the Vrabel connection, but Hollins always made more sense to me because McDaniels is the "head coach of the offense" so that connection means more.
EDIT: The STs ability also helps with the roster crunch if they add more developmental receivers to the mix and have to go heavy on roster spots if the competition extends past training camp into the regular season
Kupp hasn't been cut yet.Should have signed Kupp instead... another old fart.
Hollins was the talk of Buffalo all year long. His antics were a daily thing up here. Social media favorite.
Kind of a clown
Mack Collins thrived in Buffalo and can be good for Drake a veteran player, with leadership. Good pick up! It's very telling of Vrabel's abilities to get guys in here.. we have a stable of playmakers on defense now, and I believe that will attract more guys as FA goes on.
He's a solid receiver who's dependable, consistent and professional. So, solid, dependable, consistent and professional. And we were woefully short last eason of guys you'd describe with ONE of those adjectives, let alone all four.
You’re acting like he came to be the #1 receiver on this team, he didn’t. He’s merely depth at a position where we had 0 players. If he has to play next year we know he can catch a pass, and that’s all they want from him. I get it, maybe you wanted someone else, but this really isn’t a sigining worth of all this fuss.Sorry. I'm not buying what you're selling. Hollins was 29 in Vegas. He'll be 32 just after the start of the season.
In the 2 seasons since his "career" year in Vegas, he's had the following:
30 games, 80 targets, 49 receptions, 5 drops, 5 TDs, 629 yards. 1066 offensive snaps.
Color me unimpressed. Just because he has some history with McDaniel isn't enough to convince me he's worth a 2 year deal.
Then why did we sign him? He's not here to be a #1.. he's here as a leader and culture building player. Vrabel has been super aggressive so far and as fan it's great to see. After the last few ****ty seasons I have optimism. He caught 5 TDs because of the injuries to Kincaid and Knox. I wouldn't call that "thriving". I call that luck.
And he doesn't provide S**T for leadership.
He sucks cheaper than Bourne. But Bourne & Hollins both Suck; so what difference does it make what designation is attached to their names?
Exactly.. 100% agree. I have no problem with the signing a nice depth veteran WR that can that go up and get it when he's asked too. I didn't know he was 6"4 either. You’re acting like he came to be the #1 receiver on this team, he didn’t. He’s merely depth at a position where we had 0 players. I see it as culture guy. Someone that is going to come in and be part part of the culture in no way are we proclaiming him to be the savior. He sucks cheaper than Bourne.
He's also a warm body you can line up as an X, that will run the route called in the huddle.
Baby steps.
Yeah, him being 6'4" makes him more appealing to have than yet another -6' -200lb -4.5 Bourne.Exactly.. 100% agree. I have no problem with the signing a nice depth veteran WR that can that go up and get it when he's asked too. I didn't know he was 6"4 either.
He could show them how to catch. He may even moonlight as a WR coach.Yeah, him being 6'4" makes him more appealing to have than yet another -6' -200lb -4.5 Bourne.
The 5 Bournes + Pop Douglas experiment didn't work so great.
If they can run the ball and give maye pass protection they are already betterGet ready for no big improvement in the WR position, there are different ways to build a team, I can see they have different strategy than throwing 50/60Mi at the WR position, we still have young up and coming players in Boutte and Pop, question marks in Polk and Baker, maybe Aiyuk or Higgins still come into play but not much more than that, maybe Hunter in the draft.
It's not possible to fix everything in one offseaeon, We made some good signings already and the goal is to win games, they will be able to achieve that goal with more defense, getting out of the field and giving more chances, shorter fields for Maye.
Like ir or not, it's a strategy.
Agreed. Bills fans bummed they lost him. The Pats haven’t just sucked the last few years, they’ve been a pretty miserable bunch. I like it.I see it as culture guy. Someone that is going to come in and be part part of the culture in no way are we proclaiming him to be the savior.
