Patriots Sign WR Kenny Britt (Edit)

This signing is Akin to the Michael Floyd signing towards the end of last season. Britt gives the Patriots more size outside the numbers and in the red zone. It also may be a sign MM can't come back which would suck since I've been rootng for his return all year.

Maybe this does open the door for them to bring back Valentine though.

I think this is accurate. Like Floyd I will root for him to succeed but it won’t change my views about him. That would take a long time.

This means then you can expect Britt to be shut down for the superbowl if we make it...
He didn’t play in the AFCCG, either, and he was a detriment in the divisional round game. Basically, he was a late season pickup for meaningless games and injury insurance.

With the caveat that I'm not watching 1ll-22's and don't know what I don't know: Dorsett is another in a long line of pretty-skilled receivers who come in here and do nothing.|

And no, I don't think all of that is on the receivers.

Mess up early and you're simply OUT with Brady - I haven't seen a lot of exceptions to that.

I keep thinking that when the Pats have a game in hand late, get Allen and Dorsett and anyone else who's not clicking with Brady out there as his 1, 2, 3 options and see if they can build some chemistry.

But nope, never happens.

I've seen other QBs (Manning, for example) who can plug and play and make anyone look like a star. That's not, and never has been, Brady's MO...unless he had no choice.

I think he did fine in his role when he was needed. I’m grateful we had better receivers that we didn’t need to find out how well he learned it.
But you just want to act like your opinion is better than everyone elses and rehash it every time the subjects come up, so I’ll move on.
Floyd sucked last year in ARZ, he sucked here in NE, and he’s gone on to suck in MIN. Notice a pattern anywhere?

It’s certainly not me wanting to act like my opinion is better. It’s simply a fact.

Good example, IMO, would be when he had us convinced Kenbrell Thompkins would be a solid starter for years to come.

Looking back on that one specific example, Thompkins did pop off the screen to just about any viewer, so it's not like we were completely fooled. His shortcomings must have been in his brain.

11 years ago today the Patriots released Doug Gabriel.

If we are looking at WRs who have been acquired after TC, he is the leader in regular season receptions.

Bonus points to the lucky person who knows which WR acquired after TC who has most receptions in reg season + playoffs in the same year.

Got to be Gaffney

You've got to be kidding me. Manning was able to so called 'plug and play' because he was always surrounded by talent, unlike Brady who spent his whole career with a bunch of nobody's. If Manning had to play his career with Brady's cast, he wouldn't have won a single playoff game, let alone win a couple of Lombardis.

Yep.

11 games, 11 catches for 142 yds, 1 TD in the reg season

3 games, 21 catches, 244 yds, 2TDs in playoffs.

When you look at that, it's pretty amazing.

At risk of showing my statistical football ignorance.. EDIT: *cough* *cough* Gaffney?

Too bad Jacoby is no longer around to shadow Britt, and make sure the player does everything he should.

At risk of showing my statistical football ignorance.. Stallworth?
Stall had two stints. Originally, Stall was signed before the 2007 season. He was also signed in midyear in 2012 team but got hurt

I remember he was re-signed midyear. Thought he ended up having a decent year. I seem to remember some long bombs to him, but maybe I'm remembering his initial contract with us.

Yeah, I feel like Brady would be able to “plug and play” a cast of Demaryius Thomas, Eric Decker, Emmanuel Sanders and Wes Welker without much issue.

Nope you are right. He hauled in a long bomb vs HOU on MNF in 2012

Gotta catch all the Rutgers guys baby

Seems like big bodied injury insurance that gives he team a skill set that they need more than Dorsett’s to me.

I would've gussed when the Pats traded a 4th to Seattle for Branch (2011?) that would be the bonus question answer.
