Good breakdown. Now, he’s been having too many different guys throwing to him to get a good read on his skills. He seemed to do ok even with less than brady type qbs

He's been a pretty reliable "move the chains" guy working mainly (though not exclusively) out of the slot.

And, he's six years younger than Edelman, seven years younger than Amendola.

Matthews sounds like Edelman insurance, and perhaps even a successor. A longer contract would have been better. Given the market, I can see WR's preferring one year contracts.

Counting stats, great. He put up big numbers because he was basically the only option in a Chip Kelly offense that ran substantially more plays than any other team. A lot of those stats came during garbage time. He drops a lot of footballs and a very good coach dumped him for whatever he could get last year.

Sean Payton dumped Cooks. Attempts dont matter in the least, but if you want to go there Mathews catch rate improved to 69% in 2017 with fewer passes his way.

In summary, Mathews looked to be well on his way in Chip Kellys system and probably should have gone to a team that runs those kinds of no huddle attacking plays. Too bad that he is stuck in NE for a year.

Unfortunately yes. I’m glad they got a guy with some potential for a replacement. The draft is not as good of a bet as this guy reguardless of how good anyone looked in college

Plus like half the rosters of the Patriots championship teams were people dumped by some jabroni at some point or another.

Belichick has done this countless times and you would think that we would catch on by now.

Mathews comes to NE already knowing some of the NE plays from Kellys offense. He is obviously bright to understand that offense as well, so the NE offense should not be an issue. Kelly and BB are pals and you would have to think that Kelly gave BB the honest scoop on Mathews before NE pulled the trigger.

Only three are signed past the end of 2018 - Edelman, Mitchell and Dorsett.

I think Dorsett is only signed through 2019 if the Pats pick up a very expensive option, which I doubt they will.

Unfortunately, if he has an impactful season he will price himself out of our range and if he doesn't play well then there is not much reason to extend him anyway. Wish we had him on a 2 year deal.
