Patriots Rumor Tracker / FA Signings (Updated: Signings in OP - 4/7)

Pats have officially announced all of this week’s external signings except Britt.

Patriots Announce Free Agent Signings

The Patriots announced that they have signed S Mike Brown as an unrestricted free agent from Tennessee, S Kevin Byard III as an unrestricted free agent from Chicago, WR Romeo Doubs as an unrestricted free agent from the Green Bay Packers, FB Reggie Gilliam as an unrestricted free agent from the Buffalo Bills, TE Julian Hill as an unrestricted free agent from Miami, LB Dre’Mont Jones as an unrestricted free agent from the Baltimore Ravens and G Alijah Vera-Tucker as an unrestricted free agent from the New York Jets.

Now that the Pats have Doubs and most of the other teams interested in Brown have spent their money elsewhere, there isn't a pressing need for either team to make this trade. I think at this point it will work out better for both teams with a post June 1st trade. The Pats can get Brown for less than what the Eagles are asking now and the Eagles can save on the cap.

I still think Brown will be traded to the Patriots. I wouldn't be surprised if they have a verbal agreement in principle to make the trade post June 1st. But as we have seen with Maxx Crosby, no trade is final until the papers are filed with the league office.

Philly is making some moves to free up cap space, I wonder if this is to be able to absorb Browns dead cap hit. I would not be surprised if the Pats told them a deal is off the table by XX this date, so they can go into the draft without a potential move hanging over their head. Just a thought

The Eagles could save on the cap RIGHT NOW by trading Brown today. After today, though, they are on the hook for the Option bonus and it's in their interest to wait until June 2nd to trade him.

The Eagles problem is that they are expecting way too much in return. f

I don't think they'll add to either position prior to the draft. I think that O-line (OG & OT) and Cornerback is where we'll see additions in Free Agency.
They definitely need upgrade at CB4 and there's not much backup after Ben Brown & M. Bryant you're probably right.
They still need help at Edge and TE and have been talking about the depth at those positions in the draft so they may wait until then to add to the roster. It doesn't hurt to add vets either on the cheap. Ebiketie could come cheap, like Chaisson did but not sure about Njoku. Though he's been trending down the last couple of years. QB play could have played a part in it.

Yeah, I've gone past it a few times (I live in Worcester).
I haven't been in there yet though.

Not sure that the Ground Round merits its own thread (but it might). As a wayward youth I remember going to the one in Stoneham a lot, likely because they were lenient on checking IDs. What I remember about the place is that there was always popcorn strewn all over the floor.

The problem with having a verbal agreement on AJ for a post June 1 deal is that Philly wont get any 2026 addtional picks in the draft. I have to think maybe philly just doesnt trade him.

It isnt about Philly wanting to keep him. Brown was publicly unhappy with the team last year just after winning a superbowl.

Its not a good thing to have one of your highest paid players on the roster being malcontent.

If the best way to get rid of him is by waiting until post June 1 then thats what the Eagles should do to rid themselves of a potential locker room cancer.

Overthecap has us at $50,149,044 in cap space with 66 players signed. This does not include (either in the cap number or the roster spots) Kevin Byard, Romeo Doubs, Julian Hill, Mike Brown or KJ Britt. So I guess you can really think of it as 71 players signed.

For the next 4 players they add to the list, whatever the cap hit is will be offset by the displaced player in our top 51. Right now, the last 4 guys in our top 51 have salaries of $1,005,000. Then the 6 after that have $1,075,000 salaries.

So for the 5 players that Overthecap isn't including yet, whatever the combined cap hits for them are, $5,095,000 will come off the cap to offset it for players no longer in our top 51 once those guys are included.

Byard's deal is a reported 1 year, $9M. Seems unlikely we'd do void years or any fancy math on that so it should just be a $9M cap hit, maybe less if part of it is incentives. No idea of the structure on Doubs (reported 4 years, $68M and "up to" $80M) or Hill (reported 3 years and "up to" $18M). Have to imagine Britt and Brown are pretty close to minimum but we'll se.

My rough guess is we have about $30M left in cap space right now.
