I tend to do the opposite of Perry. I give the defender the credit for the sack but also still give the QB and receiver the benefit of the doubt that he could avoid the sack and still give them a plus play too if they make it.Sacks in the preseason don't necessarily translate into real sacks in the regular season. Reporters record sacks in the preseason based on opinion. Some would clearly be sacks in the regular season. Others would be the defender gets close to the QB, but never really has an opportunity to get a sack.
There are exceptions where you judge it not even to be close but usually those end in dead plays and vice versa sometimes it's small enough to just call it a pressure rather than a sack.
