I’m looking at the second round. Looks like most teams in the top 10 are likely not going to pursue him.Definitely a dangle. Either we keep him for a decent price or get nice comp in exchange.
The Jets need a good CB and could offer more than NE since they have cap money to burn.I would be shocked if another team decides to sign him to an offer sheet and we aren't matching it.
34th pick. I’d be okay with that. The Jets need a good CB and could offer more than NE since they have cap money to burn.
Conversely, a NYJ 2nd pick wouldnt be so bad.
# 34 is basically a 1st round selection in a deep draft. This was a needless risk unless Bill is ready to open up the bank vaults on a huge $13m contract for JC.
Consider our track record drafting DBs in the 2nd round:
JoeJuan Williams
Duke Dawson
Cyrus Jones
Jordan Richards
Tavon Wilson
Ras-I Dowling
Would you rather have JC at $13m or one of these guys?
Surtain is not considered an outside corner because of his lack of speed.# 34 is basically a 1st round selection in a deep draft.
Also, what if the Pats have Surtain Jr penciled in @ 15? I haven't evidence on what type of DB scheme Alabama runs down there, but it could very well be similar to what BB teaches in NE.
For every bad draft report on Surtain there are 5 good ones. Forget Playing on an Island, Alabama Corner Patrick Surtain II Ices the OppositionSurtain is not considered an outside corner because of his lack of speed.
As for the #34 pick, Ras I Dowling was #33.
Our record at picking DBs is much much worse than our record of picking WRs.
After Farley and Surtain, there are no CBs ticketed for the 2nd round that look worth giving up a producer like Jackson. And Surtain can't even play Jackson's position.
Jaycee Horn looks really good too, but he's considered a reach at #15, and won't be available at #34.
