And if it wasn't for Atlanta going bonkers this year, they'd be within easy striking distance of being #1 in both points scored and points allowed--Pats are only 9 points behind Oakland and the Saints, but way behind the Falcons in points scored. Not surprisingly, they're also #1 in average point differential. They've scored more and allowed less than the second place team, Dallas.

I don't know when or if that's happened (I know the 2007 Pats were close but ended up like 4th in points against I think), but I'm sure it doesn't happen much.
Not a bad thought, but they were #7 points against.2001 rams?
We almost doubled what their average was but for those who rip our defenses success because of schedule they should look at who Baltimore has played.Baltimore went from the #1 defense to the #4 total defense in one night.

Well, I might be the only person who cares, but this was bugging me--has any team been #1 in points scored and allowed in the same season? The '85 Bears and a couple of the 80's 49ers teams were #1 and #2.
The only one I found? The '96 Packers. #1 points scored with 456 (28.5 ppg) and #1 points allowed with 210 (13.1). Impressive. Followed that up with blowouts in the playoffs against the 49ers and Panthers.
Makes Parcells being distracted for the Superbowl an even bigger punch, because that game was there for the taking. Would love to go back in time and have that Patriots team be coached by Belichick.
