From last night on NBC Sports Boston ICYMI:

Andy Reid's comments following the game:

This morning's press conference with Belichick:

I don't want to hear all the "Zappe is quicker and has better command of the offense" crap... he is the exact same as Mac.
Anyone who says otherwise is falling into the same wormhole that all the Mac fans were in the last 3 years.
Zappe had some nice throws, moved well at times, processed quickly at times - then turns into Zack Wilson for several game-blowing plays that make all the difference.
This is just wrong. I'm not a big backer of Zappe. I don't thing he's a starting QB. I'm not even convinced he's a backup QB, but if people can't see that he's set when he throws, that he's not skittish and afraid, that he actually steps up into the pocket and can avoid the rush, then I'm not going to bother even addressing the comparisons. He is not very accurate and he makes bad decisions, but he does so many things better than Mac. It's fairly obvious. You can be a bad player and still do things better than one of the worst QBs we've ever seen.

Yesterday the beat reporters and the radio guys were ripping Belichick for not being more forthcoming about JC Jackson. As though Belichick has ever gone into discipline issues or criticizing players in public. He hasn't done that in 23 years, and they were angry at him for keeping it quiet. Saying that if he's losing and not being forthcoming, he should be fired.

They look like fools this morning.

If Mac did some of these things that Zappe does, Mac would be a clearly better QB because he's more physically gifted and taller. But Mac fails to do even the fundamentals of the job. That's all it really comes down to - fundamentals.

I'm starting to see the value from the perspective of - consistency, competence, second chances, history repeating itself...
Name BOB the new HC!
He's a hometown guy, looking for a 2nd chance to prove himself as a HC. All the stars align.

He did everything but say it's none of your goddamned business. Kudos to Bill for protecting the player.

What is the value in that exactly?

I am envisioning BOB taking over, making Josh McDaniels his OC, Mayo his DC. Bring in an external GM. I guess it might be... OK? But doesn't really fill me with confidence right now.

I was hoping you'd ask...
1. The continuity would save ~2 more years of losing in a total re-start with all new coaches/system.
2. The language/system could remain in tact enough for all returning and new players running start.
3. The loyalty and "brand" of the Patriots could continue in theory, while getting a new, fiery, offensive minded leader.
4. The Defense could also continue with Mayo as DC (if he stays)
5. BOB is a skilled and winning coach and OC. Deserves another chance at HC - with something to prove.
6. He turned Watson into a star, could do it again with Williams, Daniels, Penix, etc...

BOB can't even run a consistent Offense now some want him to be a HC.

This year - yes...
But still doesn't make this any less viable than a crapshoot at some young OC that's never run a team before.
We need a Fresh Offensive from the McVay Shanahan HCing Tree. Nothing we do on Offense is innovative at all.
