regardless if the process is a farce or not, the concept behind the rule is to also allow an individual to get experience with the interview process, types of questions that are asked of the individual, and also allow the individual in turn to ask questions.
for any individual that has not had the opportunity to interview for a position, why would they turn down that opportunity to better themselves for the next opening, or the next?

Right. Requirements are "can't be employed by the Patriots" and "can't simultaneously be white and a man". So basically, call up and interview any woman in the world who is not a Patriots employee, or any man in the world who is any type of minority and is not a Patriots employee, and they're eligible.
That may indeed fit the rules as they are written, but you and I both know that just because the Patriots are not breaking the rules, Roger Goodell wouldn't hesitate to take away a Pats draft pick or two, and fine the team a million dollars.

It gets tricky with people who look white but have mixed races. And by tricky I mean it's a clusterF. I can't find anything about how much of your DNA must belong to minority groups for you to qualify as a minority.

I think that goes for any rule like this. What makes a "minority"? Presumably someone with any amount of heritage in a minority race can claim to be if they wish to.

That'd be an interesting one. Forced to interview specific people due to Goodell's rule, but those people aren't interested in interviewing because they know it's only to satisfy Goodell's rule. I would hope after they got turned down by enough people and were running out of eligible candidates they could request an exemption.

Raise your hand if you thing this is the rest of the NFL's chance to stick it to the Krafts by not allowing them to fulfill the Rooney Rule. If they cannot get two outside candidates to interview, then what?
Then status quo

They will meet the requirements though... It's not hard to get someone in the door for an interview... It's all about networking for the candidates... While they may not fill the role they are interviewing for, who knows what other roles might become available... Good way to get your name out there

What's the saying, don't judge a book by its cover?

"Suleiman became one of the highest ranking Hispanics and Arab-Americans in the NFL, especially on the football side."

Yes, the world is more than just White Anglo Saxons and those of African descent.

I thought the combination of his features and his name were enough; I should have been more explicit. (I should have taken the cue that some here were mistakenly focused strictly on a black GM.)

This initiative is also known as the Rooney Rule. In November of 2020, team owners approved a proposal rewarding teams who developed minority talent that went on to become general managers or head coaches across the league. If a team lost a minority executive or coach to another team, that team would receive a third-round compensatory pick for two years. If a team lost both a coach and personnel member, it would receive a third-round compensatory pick for three years.

San Francisco has received six third-round compensatory picks since 2021. The league policy not only rewards the 49ers for their work in developing diverse talent, but also brings positive change across the NFL, making it a more inclusive and representative environment.

Yep... for Assistant GM.
Maybe, but I wonder, with Groh being in every meeting and big decision, if the plan isn't to elevate him to some sort of official or unofficial assistant GM position. I also wonder what Highsmith's ultimate role is.

How long til we see a resolution on this?

Probably sooner rather than later, based on them having two interviews. I don't think there's any rush since Wolf is doing the job and free agency and the draft have already come and gone. It's not like this is an impediment to them negotiating a new contract with Judon or whatever else they have on their agenda.

I would prefer to Promote Wolf and bring in Hunt.

You may be right. But what would Hunt do that they don't have Groh or Highsmith for? I don't completely understand how the personnel department works beyond pro and college scouting and writing contracts, but it seems like those roles are already mostly accounted for. If they're pushing Groh out, maybe. But if they were pushing him out, they have a funny way of showing it by having him be involved in every major decision.
