Patriots GM Search

Wolf was/is our “De Facto” GM since Belichick was let go. So, basically it sounds like we had a guy on a “job interview” making the most important decisions for the future of the franchise who now appears will be replaced. Not for nothing, but if the decision makers were indeed pleased with results during Free Agency and the Draft, would they now be conducting a “search” to replace our De Facto GM? And if ownership is not pleased, should the team’s fans be confident going into this season? Thank goodness we have all those cap $’s for the next “decision maker”!
Yes, they would be since the league requires it.

They ate going to have to do something else with that rule because predictably, minority coaches don’t want to do sham interviews, but teams should also be able to hire an internal guy they like and know. Just a bad idea.
Especially if the head coach is black.

I was just about to post the same thing, take em out to dinner and talk shop, does that qualify?
I don’t think there are any restrictions as far as how qualified the candidate has to be, you could theoretically interview any rando who happens to be outside Gillette on any given day.

However I think that looks pretty silly so they would prefer to actually interview realistic candidates. But if they continue to struggle getting people to talk to them then they may be forced to get creative, which just exposes the worthlessness of the rule.

Who here thinks this is a sham search and we will end up with Wolf as GM if that title is even given to anybody?
Do they have to give someone the title of GM or could they just have kept things like they were and call Wolf whatever he was?

The problem here is that the Pats gave Wolf the job in everything but title. They gave him the job and if he failed, they wanted to have the option of hiring someone else. But they're happy with his performance and now want to make it permanent. And real, qualified candidates are like, "Hell no. Why would I interview for a job you already gave to Wolf?"

Maybe it should fall under the same "succession" clause as Mayo getting the HC job, but I don't know that Kraft ever promised it to Wolf. But if he didn't, the time for interviews was when they were deciding whether to give Wolf final say over the draft. That was the point where they gave him the job in everything but title. That was the real hiring period. By making the hiring process a sham then, now that they have to do interviews, it's just more of a sham.

I don’t know if this passes as the Rooney rule?
Going to go out on a limb and say Mr. Suleiman is a person of color. If Brandon Hunt is as well, then they would have now "checked the box" for the Rooney Rule. If Brandon Hunt is not, then one more interview will be needed.

Is the Rooney rule any race?
For instance, Italian, Asian, Russian?

Um, no? What would be the point of that? Every person is some race unless they were made synthetically or some ****. At that point it would be a rule that they can only interview human beings.

hi
It's relatively open-ended for any ethnic minority, plus women.

  • Clubs must conduct an in-person interview with at least two external diverse — minority and/or female — candidates for any GM or head coaching interview.
good to know, I wasn’t quite sure what qualified and what did not.
I think the best thing would be if the NFL feels there is racism among owners and GMs to vote those people out of their positions,

2024 and this is still a issue is beyond insane.
