Patriots extend offer to Bills RFA RB Mike Gillislee

I don't see him being extraordinary so I don't really like this decision at 6M/2 years. This is also a strong year for RB in the draft, and anyone we draft is under contract for cheaper and longer.

Still, is hard to be angry at this because we are so well-off. We have the cap room, a necessity at the position AND we are only giving up the last pick of the fifth round for a somewhat proven commodity, plus we make a divisonal rival worse, even if they match us.

Its known versus unknown.

Apparently it's the higher pick in the fifth we give up. No. 163.

So does this guy make any sense ?

First he thinks it's nicely matchable and a solid deal for Buffalo :

Then he thinks it's expensive for a backup RB :

9 minutes apart.

He's saying that 6M for 2 years is matchable (IE the bills CAN match), but the Bills might not do so because he's a back up (IE the Bills might prefer not to)

it wasn't that hard to understand

I agree Lewis is in trouble

Why would Lewis be in trouble, the only back in jeopardy is Bolden.

Lewis

Burkhead

Gillislee

White

Develin

And the beauty of this backfield is that they have depth and redundancy with Lewis able to take on Whites role in case of injury, and Burkhead and Gillislee interchangeable, although Gillislee is the better inside runner.

He said it's a reasonable contract that forces them to pay a backup enough that makes it a win for the Patriots. It doesn't make sense.

Gillislee is an upgrade over Blount. Gillilsee averaged 5.7 YPC in 2016, while Blount averaged 3.9.

I'd also say that Gillisle was the number 2 RB on a team with MccCoy. Defenses probably were taking a slight breather with the number 2 guy. Bills have a solid Ol too.

I agree that he is better, but this is misleading IMO. Blount had almost 3 times more carries, plus he was the main back for us (running game-wise) while Gillilsee probably faced less attentive defenses while he was in.

Gillislee is a big back Burkhead more all-purpose. White was our MVP. Bolden is a ST guy and Lewis was great but all injuries we need a rookie RB, if we can trade him and draft a RB i think we will do it.

Blount is slow hitting the holes and lacks vision, but if he gets going he's tough to stop. Gillislee, on the other hand, is faster and more elusive. I'll take Gillislee over blount.

Wonder if Buffalo will match solely on principal.

They shouldn't, but who knows, they whole "stop New England" thing may make the dummies over play their hand.

It's true Gillilsee was the number 2 back in Buffalo, but he did replace McCoy as the starter for a while in 2016. Not only that McCoy averaged 5.7 YPC in that same offense.

Perhaps he's speaking of the 4m cost for the first year? That's why I don't think BUF will match. If they do, the Pats will have forced them to pay rather handsomely for the 2017 season.
