Patriots extend offer to Bills RFA RB Mike Gillislee

Man, I hope the Bills don't match. In the times I've seen him play, Gillislee looked like a pretty good back. I prefer him to Blount. I'm just not sure the Bills can let another one of their players go the Patriots after Hogan, Branch, and Gilmore. Hopefully the $4m in year 1 is enough to tilt it.

I'd like to get him. I don't think you really need that 250lb RB. It is nice but there is more than 1 way to get the job down.
Right, especially with defenses playing nickel 60+% of the time.

Assuming Buffalo does not match it would appear that somebody will be left out in this game of musical chairs.

Two additions (Burkhead, Gillislee)
One subtraction (Blount)

Of course the situation could take care of itself with the inevitable injury, but hopefully that will not be the case. The alternative would be taking one roster spot away from another position in order to keep an additional RB/FB.

Has anyone considered the Bills might turn around and go after Blount? He's generated no interest so would come much cheaper than Gillislee now will. He would be a pretty nice closer/goal line option for the Bills, and would help keep Shady fresh.

So? Let them. He's not going to do much there.

Why would Lewis be in trouble, the only back in jeopardy is Bolden.

Lewis

Burkhead

Gillislee

White

Develin

And the beauty of this backfield is that they have depth and redundancy with Lewis able to take on Whites role in case of injury, and Burkhead and Gillislee interchangeable, although Gillislee is the better inside runner.

I agree. I think, outside of someone being injured in camp, that Bolden would be the first casualty. That's if they only carry 5 backs.

Giants might go after Blount. Packer are another option. May be they are just waiting for him to be cut ?

I can see NYG signing blount.

But it's a deep draft for backs.

That's what I'm saying maybe they feel the talent at RB is so deep that they could still get someone decent well into Day 3...same for TE's.

The main reason I am hesitant to think it will be Bolden is simply due to his awesome ST presence. I pretty much consider him a special teams only player at this point. I'm wondering if there may be some redundancy there with Lewis, White, and Burkhead? Either way, it will be interesting to see how it all shakes out, and I'm loving the thought of an upgraded backfield.

I am going to say it...I am not going to miss Blount as Big a RB he is Blount sucks in short yardage. I think that's one of the reasons why the Pats are leery of him.

I wish someone would superglue Felger's mouth shut and his tiny **** to his leg. Why? Why is this ignorant feces eater still attempting to bash the Patriots on every move they make ?

To me this is classic Patriot chess vs. checkers. Wait until your opposition have no wiggle room and cap flexibility and swoop in on undervalued assets with an offer that is just enough to get value and too much for the team to match without pain. They should rename the Buffalo NFL team the "Bill's Beeyotches".

I have a feeling Buffalo will not match the offer, because they will look like fools.

They gave Gillislee a original 5th round offer at $1,797000.

They could have given him a second round offer at $2,740,000 but they decided to roll the dice & save $949,000

How will they look now passing on a 5th round pick & paying him $1,260,000 more than they would have paid him with the 2nd round offer.

I do not see the Patriots offering a 2nd to get Gillislee, not to mention we do not have a 2nd round pick.

The reason is simple:

In afternoon drive (2-6 p.m.), The Sports Hub’s Felger & Massarotti show reigned for the 17th straight ratings period with a 16.4 share. WEEI’s Dale & Holley’ program, which featured Jerry Thornton as a third voice during most of this period, was second with an 8.8. Thornton left the station to return to Barstool Sports on November 18 and was replaced by Sports Hub defector Rich Keefe. Dale and Holley finished significantly ahead of third-place Magic 106.7 (5.4), which currently is billed as Boston’s Christmas station.

Sports Hub first, WEEI second in fall Nielsen Audio ratings

Blame the stupidity of all the so-called educated New England sports fans.

People can spin this however they want. If this deal goes through Bill has allocated 6 million to two medicore backs who are not as good as Blount who has proven to be an excellent fit in the system. This gives us five JAG running backs. Four if you are like me and don't think Boldin will make the team.

If you want to be taken serious here please for the love of god learn at least the name of the player you are criticizing. This is just embarrassing.

A position of need filled w best option available.

1. Gillislee is 26.
2. He is better than any 5th round prospect, NFL proven, ready to prime.
3. He is better than Blount. (love LGB)
Better runner, better blocker+PP, also better reciever. He'll have a chance to prove that w TB. Not that he'll be asked to receive much, just enough that everyone knows he's a dual threat. (NB - 1 of his 8 TDs is receiving)
4. The only Q is durability. Hence 2yrs.

Id bet much of this scout report on him comes true @NE..

Gillislee is extremely well-rounded as a player and a ball-carrier. He is a very decisive runner and doesn't dance behind the line of scrimmage. Gillislee simply makes one cut and quickly charges ahead. He has excellent cutting ability to dodge defenders and pick up positive yards.

Gillislee additionally has good enough speed to get to the second level of the defense. He is shifty and makes defenders miss while retaining deceptive power. Gillislee has the ability to run through arm tackles and pick up yards after contact.

In the passing-driven NFL, Gillislee is exactly what many NFL offensive coordinators are looking for. He is a good receiver out the backfield who can run routes in the short part of the field as well as going downfield. Gillislee has very good hands, and he is a better receiver than his totals indicate.

The NFL is going to love Gillislee's blocking ability given his excellence in blitz protection. He does a good job of reading the defense to pick up the right man. Gillislee fits up his blocks extremely well to hold his ground after the initial contact. His offensive coordinator and running backs coach are going to love Gillislee's ability to protect the quarterback.
