What are we tracking here? Feelings/opinions/what-Pats-should-do?

And isn't the likelihood that Baker is having a Case Keenum type experience that will not last long? That's what I'm expecting at least.

But who knows: this is the NFC South.
The guy was there for the taking in FA a ****y #1 overall who was humbled and we passed.

Can we keep this thread for Pats coaching hire/interview news?
Yeah, I would like for people to try to keep discussion specific to news about coaching hires here. There are other threads to go in depth or more tangential about it. I have been guilty of going off-topic in this thread myself as well, but I pinned this one for a reason.

If you want to get chatty I would suggest the Mayo’s Coaching Staff thread: Mayo's Coaching Staff

Is this real? Our first time HC is conducting the GM search? Could this be any more ass backwards?

I've been saying that all year. But he's still Baker Mayfield. We've seen this movie before countless time. It's shortlived. I'll eat my hat if he is their permanent QB.

But did we pass anyway? How do you know. I mean, Mac would've been crushed and threatened if a former #1 were added to the team. And he's so precious, we couldn't have that.

Look, the Rooney Rule includes GM candidates and similar positions. They cannot tamper with guys in the playoffs until after they are no longer in the field. The GM is probably already locked in but they have to go through the motions. A working relationship between Mayo and the GM is essential, so a few calls to explore who's interested is something Mayo should be in on.

Front office hiring/promotion was made today... Robyn Glaser hired as executive vice president of football business and senior advisor to head coach Jerod Mayo... based on the article, its unclear to me what exactly her role will be...

spreadsheet in the first post has been updated, added front office positions, and included this information, though I have no idea if these positions existed before she was hired...

Mayo’s already off to a good start. Achord has needed to gtfo since 2021 but we still let him hang around so his units can help cost us games the last 2 years too.

Id like to see a change at oc too but wouldn’t be TOO against Bob again. Its just…. 13 ppg, i know the situation was poor but ya gotta find a way to do more.
Yeah this is when you really knew BB was losing it….even after the Sham Newton debacle and the Patricia/judge epic fail……Cam Achord was a horrible failure at ST and should have been FIRED years ago……Mayo should have fired his worthless ass on day one!

James White wants to be a coach under Mayo.
Make it happen Jerod.

Now if we could convince Jules to coach WRS.
Why? What makes us think that they'd be good coaches? Jules is entertaining and funny, but how does that translate to being a better coach than Troy Brown? Sweet Feet... have no idea what he brings to the table, but he wants to be here, fine, more the merrier.

I want them to go outside the umbrella and find good proven coaches to assist the youngest coach in the NFL.

Agreed. Mostly, I want to know who the OC is first and then let him have heavy input into the rest of his staff. James White COULD be good if you're going to have a guy like him on the team, but in general I think we need some guys who have coached before. And the problem with guys like Jules is the thing that made him so good was he's a F'ING MANIAC. I'm not sure you can tell a guy, "Just be tough enough to take a headshot from Cam Chancellor on a critical 3rd and 14 and just keep going!" That's either in there or it's not.

It’s definitely worth hearing him out on what his plan would be if given more leeway to craft things the way he wants, but they also need to talk to multiple OC candidates and hear their plans as well. Whoever has the most compelling plan that sets them up for long term success should be the guy.
In order to interview multiple OC candidates, wouldn't there have to be a vacancy first which implies O'Brien would have to be fired?

That's the other part about an OC like JMD, BOB, or even Kliff (who could be exciting) - all those guys would be hankering for another HC job in the next 1-2 years.
I think we need to put someone there who will stay for at min 3-4 years. That means a younger up-and-coming guy.
Nick Caley? He's now had a year under McVay.
