Player Signing Patriots Claim 4 on Waivers

White was originally somewhere between a wise/flowers type and a Judon type. He was never a Guy type.
Last year he was mostly a Wise early on then when Judon got injured he played mostly OLB
With out paper thin OLB depth I assume he will have to be there full time.
fair enough

I guess the OLB is now less paper-thin with White, Jennings, and Oche [and Ximines I guess]

The DL seems even more paper thin with 5 players: Godchaux, Wise, Pharms, Johnson, and Ekuale. Johnson may be a solid pickup.

Yeah OLB lacks depth, DL lacks a starter and depth

They brought in a cast off safety and drafted a corner in the 6th. Thats pretty much what ignoring means.

They brought in an injured backup LB and a borderline roster guy who the giants didn’t want.

Who exactly did the bring in the DL?

Putting yourself in a position to gs ever claim players off waivers from other teams and cut the guys on your roster is exactly what ignoring the position means
Come on man…

Every team brings in guys in the offseason and TC who were cast offs from other teams. That’s nothing unique to the Pats.

Putting in waiver claims is also common practice for any team in the league. Not every team does it each year, but every team does it.

You can’t single out the Pats and b!tch and moan about things that all 32 teams regularly do.

Sure the DL is thinner now with the unfortunate circumstance regarding Barmore. The Pats obviously like the other guys they have in the DL rotation otherwise they would have made more of an effort to bring in DL depth besides just Pharms and Watts.

Pharms has shown well so far. Watts was a miss…it happens.

You seem to be confusing bringing in cast offs to competition camp for the bottom of the roster and ONLY bringing in castoffs

We claimed 4 guys that weren’t good enough to make another team. Thats a lot.

all 32 teams don’t scrape up waived players and only terrible ones grab 4.

See this is the point. They didn’t want to pay to bring in quality players. The fact that they think Friends U and a slug on cheap $ who couldn’t make the team are guys they like means one of 3 things.
1) they refuse to pay or
2) they have no spending constraints and they actually think that is an NFL caliber DT group (and OL as well) which means they have no clue what they are doing
3) they are purposely trying to build a bad roster

None of the 3 are good.

Listen…you have to learn to accept that the team brain trust is moving forward with an approach to team building that YOU don’t like. The team is implementing a long term strategy which hasn’t yielded any results yet because…well…the team hasn’t even played a game with the new regime in charge. This season is the beginning phase and the truth is that it probably won’t be pretty.

You droning on and on about why we didn’t sign a bunch of JAG FAs and *****ing about cap spending in every post serves zero purpose, and to be brutally honest, most posters on this forum have tuned you out.The hard reality for you is that it doesn’t matter what YOU think. The Pats organization has a different plan than yours and that’s the bottom line.

I accept the idea this is the first year of a rebuild. And yes, the focus should be on 2025-2027, the 2nd-4th year under Maye.

That being said, it is Wolf that signed the JAG free agents. It was not andy suggesting that strategy. Only Gibson was signed to a long-term contract. I liked that signing.

Even if we accept that Wolf did the best he could at QB, OT and QR, we had/have plenty of cap room to sign a couple of $10M-$15M players on the future Defense.

I don’t remember asking you to tell me what I should or shouldn’t accept or asking for your approval for my opinions.

I certainly haven’t “droned on” about signing JAGs because I never once asked for more JAGs.
I’m not sure when you polled “most posters on this forum” although it send you are making that up, but if you want to tune be out certainly be no guest, having to respond to your whining replies wastes my time.

Here is a shocker for you it doesn’t matter what YOU think either.

However this is a Patriots football board and I am listing my views on the patriots. I am sure at least some members find value in that. You however seem to be afraid of and insulted by opinions that differ from your own. The result is that I am posting about the patriots, and you are posting about posters.
If you don’t like my posts you have many choices.
1) out me on ignore
2) don’t read them

Here is another thing I don’t understand

If the QB gets sacked because an OL misses a block do we say it’s ok he tried or do we say he needs to play better it’s his job?
If the coach mismanaged the clock do we say it’s ok he did his best or that he needs to do better then that it’s his job.
If a WR drops a pass do we say, he tried, but catching go passes is hard so he did his best?

Then why are we so ready to say we didn’t sign any legit free agents and it must be because they dint want to play here, and not recognize it’s the front offices damn job to build a roster and part of that job is convincing free agents to come here?

I agree. As an aside, we did sign ONE legit free agent for the playoff run (Gibson).

Yes, we might have had to pay more since we are such a bad team, but we had the extra cap money and will have it again in 2025.

So, we should say that Wolf tried and should do his job better next time.

I don’t agree that a backup RB is a legit FA signing.

It’s acceptable to you that he failed and we give up a year and see how it goes next time?

What is your alternative?

In the end, it may make very little difference whether the 2-3 defensive were signed this year or next. I preferred this year. We will need them even more next year.

This year is about the coaches and players getting experience, making mistakes and learning from them. Unless you are buying the team, there is nothing for you to do. Kraft is not going to change GM's before or during his first season. I expect that Mayo is here for at least as long as Maye is here. If there is to be a scapegoat after a couple of seasons, it will be Wolfe.
=======
You don't accept Wolf's approach to 2024. So?

I have been seeing people here and on reddit complaining about free agency and I agree not much was done, but I could not really remember who all was available. I went back and looked to get a better understanding of what wolf was looking at.

WR- Mike Williams, OBJ, Curtis Samuel, Boyd, MVS, Ridley(Pursued), Chark, Josh Reynolds, Hollywood Brown, Van Jefferson, Gabe Davis, Shaheed, Darnell Mooney Signed-Bourne and Osborn. My opinion is the 2 we signed are as good as any of the others

TE-Fant, Everett, Bryant, Trautman, Sample, Albert O Signed- Henry and Wilcox as good as any. Henry is reliable

LT-Dillard(meh), Tyron Smith (too old and doubt he would want to come here wants to compete be good), Peat(downhill of career), Yosh Listed as backup RT (I wanted him signed but honestly not guaranteed to win LT spot), Josh Jones (same boat as yosh), Udoh(Back up RT meh), Matt Peart- Backup LT (was told that Jacobs was outplaying him). The answer was not out there in free agency

DL- I feel that we could have made a big splash with Wilkins, but I think they wanted White next to Barmore so Wilkins would have been a very expensive luxury

Edge- Hunter was another want but age didn't match our rebuild timeline same with Judon. Honestly there were a few different directions to go and would have potentially been an upgrade.

CB-we could have brought some good talent, but our current young guys are decent.

So in summary, IMO the biggest upgrades were on defense. but that is were we are pretty good, I still think they should have made some moves there. There would be even more complaints if he went heavy on the defense.

While Wolf gets **** and I am not saying it is not warranted, I think at times we just go with the narrative that we could have fixed thew OL, but after review it wasn't there. If I missed people that anyone was high on let me know.

You certainly don’t need my approval to do anything on this board. Post whatever you want; I’m not a mod here.

The only person “whining” is you with your constant crying about FA and cap space. But whatever, you can do as you please.

And you’re right; it doesn’t matter what I think. I’m just a fan. However, it’s pretty obvious that what I’m saying about the Pats future seems to be aligned with what they are actually doing. I also realize that team building is fluid and can change from one season to the next. This is something that no one here on this forum has any control over.

To your points:
1) I don’t want to put you on ignore
2) I try to at least glance at all posts I find interesting if time permits
3) “Go F myself”…lol seriously. What are you…12 years old?

Im not whining at all. I am discussing the patriots with an objective and critical analysis.

Right, you are endorsing what they are doing and I am saying they are doing a crappy job.

If you choose not to do 1,2, or 3 then I suggest you start posting about football instead of posting about posters.
