The Ringer has Patriots' offense ranked last in NFL for 2024
No one is feeling optimistic about the Patriots offense in 2024, but could they have the worst offense in the NFL?

This is well deserved. Contributors to this:
1. BB mismanaging (butchering) the roster for at least the past 4 years with no post Brady strategic plan
2. Wolfe drafting Maye, knowing he won't be ready for another year at least
3. Wolfe going bargain bin hunting for OL and not adequately addressing the most important position for developing a sound offense
4. Not upgrading or adding to the RB position
5. Inability to trade for, draft or sign a dynamic WR
6. Not upgrading the TE position
7. Not aggressively pursing a "name" head coach and OC that might help to attract top tier talent.
There were opportunities
1. Sign a starting QB1 better than Brisset (e.g. Garropolo)
2. Accept the Vikings trade (11 and 23 for 3), in which case they could have taken an OL and a WR or QB
3. Be more aggressive in FA market;
sign Jimmy Garropolo as QB1
sign Gerald Everett as TE,
sign Tyron Smith as LT,
sign Mike Williams, Curtis Samuel or Gabe Davis at WR
sign Austin Ekeler, Josh Jacobs or D'Andre Swift as RB
4. Draft Marvin Harrison Jr. at #3 and get someone who can help immediately
My point is that the Patriots chose to be passive and accept that they would suck this year and play the long game.
They could have come out swinging and made an attempt to be competitive this year (obviously not a SB contender).
As it is it's obvious that the front office has accepted being a non competitive team this year with an eye on the future. It worked for GB (Wolfe model) but there have been teams that this approach resulted in being perennial loser until the team won the QB lottery (Cinncinatti- pre Burrows, Cleveland pre Watson, Jets pre Rogers, Buffalo pre Allen for example)
If Maye does not pan out as a star QB by 2025 or 2026, this team will obviously be stuck in purgatory (yes I am captain obvious). Unfortunately the Patriots probably chose the least NFL ready QB of all QB';s drafted in first round.
