Most of us were mad that we didn't get more than a 2nd...
Gronk and Hernandez in one draft....amazing
Really, we shouldn't get too proud of the TE haul in 2010. That will turn out to be one of the finest TE classes in history. Like shooting fish in a barrel.
Jermain Gresham to Cinci in the 1st. Quality... although Gronk has outplayed him.
Baltimore drafted Ed ****son (3rd) and Dennis Pitta (4th). Both are solid.
New Orleans got Jimmy Graham at the end of the 3rd, which is better value than Gronk.
KC took Tony Moeaki in the 3rd.
That's a pretty solid haul.
Yeah, but not better value than Aaron Hernandez.
ever notice that??..I know YOU do, CT...the whole NFL media consistently blacks out or blots out any mention of AHern...other teams fans all clamor about how they will stop the Gronk when it should be obvious to opposing defensive coaches that the real nightmare is Hernandez...and he's SIGNED long term...dyam, how did we ever get so lucky???
Does anyone miss Scott Pioli?[/QUOTE
Yes, I do. I also miss Charley and RAC.
The Pats have not won a SB without them.

Are you blaming J. McD? He is back now, has been since the beginning of the year, and the Patriots, seemingly, had a good draft in 2012.Pioli has 3 Superbowl rings and a 4th appearance. Casero has 1 appearance..
Both are good. Instead of blaming Pioli, why not the coincidence that the drafts after 2009 got good once a certain coach left to decimate Denver's roster and then also run the worst offense in the entire league in St Louis....
I loved that draft for many reasons. Honestly though, i was happiest that we drafted mesko at the time of the draft. Even though i liked the players we selected, you never know if they will actually work out but i was pretty confindent mesko had to be better than chris hanson who just sucked.
2009 had to be one of the most annoying seasons i have ever seen. It was was worse than our losing seasons with crappy punter, garbage second half offense, guyton and tbc, maroney running into peoples backs. I hated that season and our blowout loss to the ravens was just the icing on the cake.
What was so special about that draft was it helped keep this dynasty afloat even in transition. That was the only recent year I remember the Pats were potentially supposed to miss the playoffs.
Looking at the draft we got:
1. Devin McCourty- He may have struggled last season, but still can't take away his stellar rookie year. Should be improving off of last year's performance. Grade- B
2a. Rob Gronkowski- This pick has really spoken for itself. One of Belichick's best draft decisions he's made in a long time. Grade A+
2b.Jermaine Cunningham- After appearing to be a bust after his very quiet 2011 campaign, many had already written him down as a bust. However, the 2nd rounder has shown new signs of life this offseason. And after already recording a sack in the first game of the 2012 season, the future looks bright for the ex-gator. Grade- for now a C+.
2c. Brandon Spikes- While he has had issues with staying healthy, when this man is on the field, he makes his presence known up the middle. Has provided that anchor up the middle, and has helped Mayo move to the outside to beomce more of a playmaker. Great pick. Grade-B+
3. Taylor Price- Ehhh...Taylor Price. Price was another case of us drafting an underachieving WR in the mid rounds. Never really showed any potential on the squad. Grade- D
4.Aaron Hernandez- Potentially the steal of the draft. He fell this far due to a failed drug test, but how could this talent be ignored until the 4TH round?? Like Gronkowski, he's been part of the reason our offense is as dominant as it is today. Grade- A
5.Zoltan Mesko- While most of the time drafting a punter doesn't sit well with fans, Mesko has shown to be a very consistently reliable punter. Solid pick. Grade- B
Rest of the draft-
Kade Weston, Thomas Welch, and Zac Robinson never caught on and didn't stay long. Neither did Ted Larson though he has found success in Tampa Bay. The only impact player that came out of the later rounds was DE Brandon Deaderick, who has brought in solid depth on our D-line.
Overall draft grade- A-. Probably one of Bill's best drafts over the last several years.
Surprised you would highlight Taylor Price and then include Brandon Deaderick as the rest of the draft. I view Deaderick as a very good player. Capable of starting in a 3-4 and providing excellent depth as a 3rd or 4th DT in a 4-3. His potential is just scratching the surface right now. He looked much faster last week in the snaps he saw.
