Patriots Agree To 1 Year Deal With Kellen Winslow Jr.

in this offense, with a healthy hernandez, WR2 is more than likely the 4th option, sometimes the 5th if the RB is potentially involved......

this offense is evolving.....in their 2-2 sets, the slot guy just isn't as huge an option as it was in the past, and better be able to block as well

doesn't mean there isn't a spot for welker in the 2-2 sets, doesn't mean that welker isn't a better option than edleman in other sets, but this offense is different, this roster is constructed different, and you need it look at it with a different eye

i have zero issue with the offense or roster right now

obviously with some much emphasis on hernandez and the flexibility of the 2-TE sets afforded by gronk/hernandez, losing hernandez on the 3rd play threw a kink into the offense in arizona......the only fault i have with them is not being able to adjust quickly enough......

but this team as constructed just doesn't need a branch or gaffney right now, and edleman has value for what they need out of that position

You are welcome to your opinion. I figure it's approaching 100% wrong, and that applies to every post I've read from you in this this thread. We'll never agree on this. With that being the case, there's no sense in my further replying to your posts or you further replying to mine.

We all would love to see this but it's most likely never going to happen because Belichick has deluded himself into thinking Ninkovich is an elite DE.

I don't think BB views Ninkovich as an elite DE. I really don't know what your beef is with the guy. He's a solid run defender, and a pretty crappy pass rusher. Nothing wrong with that.

There are various DVOA and advanced stats out there, but Edelman's production in 2010 & 2011 was basically amongst the worst in the league. Obviously, sample size was small, but when he was on the field, he wasn't getting open and he wasn't catching the ball at a great rate.

I'm all for optimism and players developing; I would love for Edelman to grow into a great all around receiver. But I can't expect him being more than a slot guy.

I started a thread called "what's the fascination with Edelman" not because I don't think he can't be a good player for this team, but because I can't think of many players who the fanbase has so willingly accepted and embraced as an inevitable replacement for one of its stars with so little production to back it up.

Not to mention, Edelman is just as much a free agent as Welker after the season. If anything, there's always the tag with Welker, and obviously we wouldn't do that with Julian.

this offense with gronk & hernandez and how they utilize then isn't LIKE any other offense in the league, so you can't compare edleman's numbers to other WR2 numbers and see what you are getting with him

Yeah, this is a really bad move. Why would you want to upgrade from Hoo-the-hell-was-it-I-was-supposed-to-block after that trainwreck on Sunday?

Lex Hilliard
Michael Hoomanawanui
Donald Thomas

I don't have a problem with Donald Thomas being on the roster, necessarily. I do have a problem with him being one injury away from starting.

I think concern over Carter's health is a very valid thing. On the other hand, the Raiders are reportedly giving him a second look at, so that would at least seem to indicate that they didn't consider him to be too far off when they first brought him in.

I'm looking at a passing down front four of Jones/Wilfork/Carter/Cunningham(other), and I'm thinking that QBs will have to keep their heads on a swivel. I don't know if it matches up with Buffalo's line, or the Giants line, etc..., but the inclusion of a healthy Carter opposite the young gun would give great pressure on the ends, and Wilfork is getting pretty good pressure up the middle. QBs will have nowhere to go.

With the amount of money the team pissed away this offseason, I don't see any reason not to bring Carter in now. They can cut one of the other DL and try to get him on the PS if they think highly enough of the guy. If Carter needs a few more weeks, he can be inactive, just like the guy he's replacing would have been.

Assuming Carter appears to be near recovered, I'm for this plan.

As to Waters, posters are assuming that the silent player and his silent agent want to play here now. We do not know that to be so.

And as to K2 whom I'm not fond of as a person, he does fit the AH utility profile more closely than other alternatives such as old Pats WRs. Maybe his knees are medically good enough for limited PT, yet shot for a 16 game season. That could work for us, if so.

You mean to tell me the #4 OG is worse than the three above him on the depth chart?

Groundbreaking revelation, I tell you.

I was trying to avoid a flame war in the thread by suggesting that we don't reply to one another in this thread when we're so diametrically opposed, and this is where you go?

Off to ignore with you. I've no patience to deal with this sort of crap today.

He is ineffective on the outsides at this stage of his career.

There's no doubt Branch slowed down last season, but it's hard to argue with production. He's still far more productive than Edelman. Edelman was on the field for 117 offensive snaps last year and only produced 34 yards.

Donald Thomas is a disaster on the offensive line.

Yet another summer wonder guy who to me at least looked somewhat decent in pre-season reps but craps out when playing meaningful snaps against professional opponents with real game on the line motivation.
