Patriot Announce 2024 Captains

How do you like how Wise is still a team captain? Remember how that was talked about when he was first named?
Yep, he's a captain by default because of his seniority... However, there's someone else in the building with more seniority AND more production relative to their positions: Jonathan Jones. Why wasn't he named one of the captains? Has he in fact ever been named one...?

You are right. By default, he should be named Captain based on his snap count. But as Captain Stone pointed out, Peppers is the better player as Dugger was graded out as having his worst season since his rookie year. It's really bizarre Dugger got paid what he did given there was no market for him.

Never understood that pick in the first place when Antoine Winfield Jr & Trevon Diggs were still available... Wouldn't have surprised me if Uncle Dugg himself had still been available at 60/71; he would've been a better pick there than the little dude Bill, Nicky & Nike d-i-d take.

I think Barmore, assuming he's back and healthy, will be a captain next year and after. Seems like a leader type.

I'm sure Jones isn't thrilled about not being a captain, but it's tough when you are just a slot CB.

While he's not a horrible pick, it wasn't the right pick at the time. I remember the controversy here with criticizing Bill taking Dugger over Winfield who was the more ready player then and now an All Pro/Pro Bowler.

He is the starting QB - he was easily the surest one to be captain. A starting QB would have to be a horribe teammate to not make captain.

He is also a well liked dude so there was zero chance he was not going to be captain as the starter.

So if you're getting the captain spot simply because you're the QB then are you really a captain?

Every one of his teammates know he didn't earn his job.

Your reasoning is the influence I was talking about.

Yeah those c on the jerseys are so important just like tables at press conference and bouncy houses for the players what a clown

He might be, but I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't care. That kind of things matters to some folks, but not all. Some dudes just like to go out and play, and we hear so little from Jones in general that it's hard to guess what motivates the guy.

Pretty predictable. If you told me to pick 6 captains, probably who I would have gone with. Bentley/Wise/Andrews were obvious candidates to repeat. Brissett was obviously a captain if he started which always seemed likely to happen. Peppers is obviously more of a talker than Dugger or Tavai and once Judon was traded seemed sure to be a captain. Cardona made the most sense for specialists.

If Maye got the starting job it would have been interesting. Could have maybe seen Henry getting it then. And if Judon was still here maybe he gets Peppers' spot.

weird not seeing Matthew Slater there

The "just a" special teams long snapper got a C

In summary...
A short term, stable pony QB who will be shoved aside sooner rather than later
And
The special teams long snapper............comprise 1/3 of NE's leadership core.

I imagine these two carry about as much weight in the locker room as a substitute PE teacher at Foxborough High and the janitor there whose one job is to empty the classroom trash can.
