I’ve really been disappointed in the scapegoating of Mac Jones in this forum. It’s been personal, vulgar and way over the top. He’s not a good QB. That fact doesn’t deserve the ridicule directed at him. I certainly hope we’re all fairer, more realistic and patient with the next guy.
Moderators who are all too eager to shut down any mild criticism of Belichick are allowing page after page of pure hate to be directed at a 25 year old kid. Hell, they are even piling on. Over the weekend, Ross posted about Jones “****ting himself “ and Ian was making up stuff about Mac’s “camp” telling him it wasn’t his fault.
I agree personal attacks are unacceptable, regardless of whether they’re directed at Mac, Tom, Bill, Bob, BOB, Matt, Ian, or fellow posters on here.
I think there are some areas where it’s hard to draw a clear line between legitimate scrutiny of player traits and personal attacks. For example, saying Mac panics easily isn’t to me a personal attack on him, it’s an observation of behavior. Maybe it should be better expressed as “appears to panic” rather than asserting that he loses his ****, but in the context of these discussions that’s an understandable verbal shortcut.
i haven’t seen mods shutting down much recently, think that was a former mod to the extent its real at all. I do know that it seems to me Team Anti-Bill is quick to complain about anything posted that doesn’t comport with their agenda. I don’t think anyone has been shutting down even “mild criticism of Belichick”.
Also, I think it’s unreasonable to expect mods not to participate in discussions. I don’t see either Ian or Ross as out of line for joining the rest of us in critizing Mac, and regardless of that neither example you cited was “piling on”.
i think one factor that incites over the top criticism of Mac is that there are still posts defending him when most of us think his performance is indefensible. The current style of this board isn’t to have discussion about such disagreements, it’s to shout them down and crush the other side. It’s the same thing that happens when it’s Bill not Mac. It’s toxic, but it is what it is.
one last thought about Mac. More interceptions than games played. Eleven games played, only two have been free of interceptions. After every game he says the right things about needing to play better, but how long can he talk that talk while getting a pass for not walking the walk? We know Belichick hates error repeaters, what do you think he should say and do about the worst error repeater on the team?
