Julian Edelman doesn't tend to get the credit and respect he deserves around the league, but one former player took notice in a recent ESPN segment, putting him ahead of some notable names which created some controversy.

Wasn't going to post but wtf, so here are my 2 cents.

Comparing a rookie to a goat is absurd! How long have you been watching football? How many QB's have you seen have good/great seasons? How many have continued to have great seasons? Count them out for me....
Your QB had a good year no doubt about it. If you want the torch to be passed, try 3 years before ever even considering it. Win something before ever bringing it up. Try keeping the team together long enough to do something.
In the playoffs your QB was exposed. Just like Newton he had a good year. Grats for that, but everything he did was stats not substance. Manning always could do the stats, Super Bowls not so much.
So please, lets not anoint the next great one until they actually prove they are great and not just a flash.

Foles had a QB rating higher than Mahomes. Throwing a 2-yard screen to Hill who screams 80 yards for a TD, or, similarly, just heaving it downfield to a wide open Hill doesn't make him God. Hill had 27 catches over 20 yards - that's insane. he goes down with an injury, or you lose him to cap in a year, and the difference in Mahomes will be pretty stark.

How about you let Vince Youn...err, Michael Vic...err, RGIII...err, Colin, Kaep...err, Cam Newt...err, Nick Fol...err, Carson Wendt...err, Derek Car...err, Mark Sanch...err, Jarred Gof...err...Andrew Luck...err...Patrick Mahomes get a few seasons under his belt, after tape on him, maybe in a year or two where he doesn't have Tyreek Hill uninjured and at the top of his game, or Kelce at the top of his game, or without Hunt next year, before you start claiming that "the torch has passed" from a guy who's been in 4-of-the-last-5 Superbowls, ostensibly without a weaker roster than many teams (certainly a lesser WR corps), and won three of them, okay, Chief?

And I might add, the officials get tape, too, and coaches complain. KC got away with a lot of blatant pick plays this year, and Kelce might start seeing those double stiff arms get called. Little things matter.

Noticed that Mahomes took a few limping steps in his last few games, too. Wear and tear matters, particularly on a scrambler QB who often takes off on a run.

On that note, Mahomes took a couple of awful sacks in that game, by the way, which is typical for QBs who think they can make something out of nothing over and over again. It's also how coaches learn to make QBs uncomfortable. I'm not busting your balls here, and I would have been rooting for KC if they had gone to the bowl, because I like Mahomes a lot, but geez, man, pump the brakes on the coronation.

Yeah, Mahomes had a much better statistical year than Brady. So did Goff, Brees, Rothlesberger...In 18 years, Brady has 3 MVPs. Three.

In those other 15 years, 11 times a DIFFERENT QB won it. Was the torch passed on any of those occasions?

In any case, Brady was showing off your torch in the Duck Boat parade today. He'll keep it clean for you for a few more years - that is, if KC manages to get to a Superbowl and win it. KC had a magical year this year with minimal injuries. This year is over.

If you asked me to build a Pats team around one guy for the next three years, I'll KEEP Brady.

You do realize there is more to being a QB than arm strength and quick feet, right? Brady is the Goat because of what goes on between his ears. In the time it takes Mahomes to process his first read Brady has gone through all of his and delivered the ball. This results in Mahomes having to bail out of the collapsing pocket and make some incredibly athletic throw that makes everyone go WOW! But truth be told if he we're a better "quarterback" he wouldn't have to make that throw, the ball would be out before it was necessary. And those left handed behind the back passes will come back to bite him in the ass eventually.

The passing of the torch thing always amuses me because things change so fast in the NFL that Mahomes will soon be paid and have to carry inferior teams with much less talent and he has to prove he can back this season up and not fall back to the pack, the window is never as big as you think.

There are no guarantees that Mahomes in back in the AFC Championship again in the next 2-3 years, other teams and quarterbacks improve too.

It's clear this fool has no life and his only goal is to get this pathetically moronic thread up to 100 pages by coming back once a week repeating the same drivel and getting patsfans to respond.

This has gotten beyond boring, he seems to enjoy getting reamed. Hey pal it's the offseason, go find your weaner you sick MF.

The only obvious point here is the one at the top of your head. How could you possibly KNOW that nobody outside of this message board believes Brady is a better QB than Mahoney? What evidence beyond your own fantasizing can you offer in support? You make a completely unsubstantiated claim with nothing to back it up. Even an anecdote or two from someone halfway credible would suffice and you can't even offer that! Go soak your head and this time don't flush.

first thing to this very misinformed post. Its not like he had a good rookie playing year or great year, he had the best second year or first rookie year " whichever does not matter" in the HISTORY of the NFL, I think people say cam neuton or wientz etc those paled in comparison to his rookie errr second year campaign.

He wasn't exposed in the playoffs in fact he was MUCH better than Brady, hence the passing of the torch. Brady actually didn't play well at all throwing 2 INT's with an almost 3rd that would have sealed the game if ford wasn't such a block head.

Look you won, I'm happy for you, all it great and I'm not butt hurt in the least, but there was a 100% passing of the torch at the QB and you know that.

Well constructed argument but I think your missing the point. I'm not talking about as a team, overall you guys have a better team, you won the superbowl, but at QB, no comparison anymore.

That exactly what Mahomes biggest strength is, what's between the ears, he also has everything else. I think the tough part for most pats fans is knowing that his best days are behind him, maybe not as a team but at QB. Mahomes has took the torch, Brady knows it even if you don't think so.

Just watching NFL live or NFL network and when they talk about Mahomes vs Brady virtually all of them agree Mahomes is a better QB and the future.

Mahomes would've been starting last year on 95% of the teams in the league. KC was reportedly blown away w how quick he picked up the playbook & terminology.
They had a QB very comfortable running that system along w his relationship w Reid.

I have nothing against the way you feel about this topic...free speech and all. I think the difference is in how one judges the role of the QB and what makes them great. To us Pats fans, most of us remember Bledsoe with his gaudy stats and sporadic heroics (I was a fan and thoroughly appreciated him) and then came Brady a guy that would do whatever was needed at the time to win and the idea of QB-ing (for me) has taken on a new meaning. Some example of greatness to me is Brady in the SB going to the sideline and saying "Let's just kick the FG" instead of his ego getting in the way of winning and begging to go for the 4 and inches or handing the ball off time and time again because the defense is gearing up to stop the run. He also goes out of his way to fit within the framework of the entire team and not demand special treatment. But above all else, he is a leader that inspires his teammates to also do whatever it takes to win and win and win and win and win and win again (btw that was six wins...get it? ya know because the Patriots are 6x SB Champions.) Anyway, that felt good to write and hope it helps you understand the Patriots fans viewpoint about watching greatness in a QB.
