Passing of the tourch.

This system qb stuff is total absolute garbage. Brady is best at the end of games when the defense has a good idea of what they are running. When you’ve run 75+ plays and you’re in passing only situations, how many wrinkles are left? It’s just a matter of execution. In the 4th quarter and OT of the KC game, the Chiefs defenders knew where the ball was going, but the placement was absolutely perfect. You realize how much of this is actually Brady when he wins in a two minute offense so often.

You forgot the Oline degrades too, and you pick at the bottom of every round of the draft so there are limited replacements. Tension due to divas wanting to get paid, on and on. Seattle finally purged all of that but they are not even close to going to a Super Bowl.
They couldn't even beat the ****ty Cowboys.

Rational Chiefs Fan can’t comment right now. He’s watching the pro bowl and hearing about how amazing sideshow Bob is. By the way, 7/14 in that game...looks like it really is just the system in KC.

I hope he caught the dodge ball this week. Epic stuff from what I understand.

Now now. They run a very complicated scheme in the Pro Bowl.

Here’s what people really don’t understand.

You have a guy like Mahomes, and you see incredible talent. You see a guy whose amazing arm, mechanics, and balance are apparent. You can see the talent with your eyes.

Then you have a guy like Brady. He has high level passing ability and great mechanics, but his “stuff” isn’t what makes him so great. It’s his mental processing power, which is the ability to diagnose defenses, look off defenders, make many calculations, and release the ball in about two seconds.

The fallacy is in thinking someone like Mahomes will automatically reach Brady’s mental level merely with experience and learning. That’s where so many fans, teams, and scouts are just plain wrong. The idea that Mahomes will ever be as mentally great as Brady is just as unlikely as Brady suddenly “developing” an arm and mobility like Mahomes. Many guys have come into the league with physical talent, which has automatically placed their “ceiling” above Brady’s, but they never got there. They typically improve to some degree and then plateau. It isn’t by lack of hard work and effort. You need to recognize that Brady’s mental prowess is also an innate gift and not something you can just achieve if you weren’t born with it.

Right and I don't disagree that Brady has a VERY high football IQ. I think Mahomes is way ahead of most players at his age looking as what he has done.

But I think the toughest part when I say passing the torch is not to say that Brady is bad, the whole point of the thread was watching them both play was very obvious that the torch had been passed. If it was an individual sport of course he is a better player, I don't think anyone would argue with that but its not. I just can't get over so many of you ( not all but most) holding on to the idea that he is the best in the league still?

You may have the best 53 men and coach but for the one position of QB you do not anymore. I just don't understand why you get so up in arms about it. Did I say he was bad? no, quite the opposite but Mahomes is doing things that have NEVER been done before, ever, ever in football. So the fact that I'm saying you have the best team and the second best QB is a compliment.

For what it is worth, (nothing) this would have been the FIRST time I would have rooted for the team that beat the Pats in the AFC Title game. There was NO way I was rooting for 5 head, the Donkeys, The Ratbirds, the Jest, and the like. Mahomes is a TREMENDOUS talent, very likeable, and hopefully he has a long and exciting career.

As far as Torch being passed, WHEN Brady retires, I hope Mahomes is a star in the league for a long time. He is smallish and though hes not Randall Cunningham, or Michael Vick, he can run when the opportunity presents itself. For him to take out an ACL or the like, seems very probably, and because of this, his career could be limited.

Thanks to the KC fan coming here after his loss. Sorry, but there is NO WAY I could have gone to a rivals board to pay any form of tribute at all, BEFORE The Pats had won a few rings, now? Its easy

Congrats to Mahome, he just got handed the tourch as Pro Bowl mvp. The tourch broke and all but he's on his way.

He’s not a Cam or Roethlisberger size but he isn’t “smallish”. Mahomes is listed 6’3 230

He’s not a true running QB. Most of his hits happen behind the line of scrimmage. He is quick to slide whenever he starts running. Mahomes only dives or challenges defenders on big plays and even this is rare

Hopefully he learns not to take unnecessary shots outside the pocket

I don't know why everyone on this board take this so harshly.

You won, we lost, I did call that ahead of time and am on record in a different thread

You have the best coaching staff in the history of football

You have the best schemes in the history of football

You consistently win all the time and most consider one of the best franchises in the history of the NFL.

You had one of the best QB's in the history of the NFL.

Saying the torch has been passed from a 41 year old to a 23 year old who did what he did this year isn't a negative, its simply a fact. Nothing to be upset about or feel bad about, just pointing out the obvious. I'm not saying Brady is average, just saying he is no longer elite, he is more of a game manager now, no different from when Peyton won a few years back, it was his defense, game plan etc.

Brady has carried the torch a long time and been very good, this is just the passing to the next greatest QB. Good luck in the SB
You're engaging in such wishful thinking. You, and millions of others, want so desperately for the NE reign of terror to be over that you'll literally root for them to win in the hope that Brady and/or BB might retire. Sorry, not happening. Despite what you've read here, Mahomes is a great QB. The Chiefs will win a SB soon, just not this year. Or maybe next year. But, to describe Tom Brady as a system QB doesn't reflect well upon you. I'm guessing you're a more astute observer and evaluator than that assessment might suggest. But, with all due respect, and I mean that, when you or anyone else describes Tom Brady as a "system QB" you (all) sound stupid.

He sounds 14 tbh & somewhat understandable if so. Calling Brady a "system QB" reflects so bad on the person its not funny. They're not doubt trying to take a shot but are usually too dumb to get that ...

QB's or should I say winning QB's have absolutely no problem w being labeled that. A wise man once said "sometimes the hardest thing to do is nothing" & in other cases take the safe play & not make a foolish mistake. Playing a smart, complete football game for 60 & coming out on top is an incredible accomplishment.

Brady & to a lesser extent Josh have done it all w a myriad of mix/match personnel pieces & always made it work.

It sux being a draftnik though. Watched Maholmes years before most know his name & know I have to listen to KC fans talk about system this/that while Andy Reid is their HC.

Unlike many Pats fans I enjoy watching this type of trollishness from a losing fan.

I got the same kind of kick from a Rams fan in 2001 who claimed that the reason he knew the game was fixed because of how quickly the NYFL had the red, white and blue confetti flying through the air.

On a more serious note, I think Mahomes was pretty much exposed by the style of defense that the Pats played. They kept him in the pocket and gave him the look that he could step up, only to have a defender come up in that gap. He looked lost on a lot of plays.

Because, and some day you will realize this, being the best passer in the league does not make you the best quarterback. Being the best athlete doesn't make you the best player. In a pro bowl skills competition I would probably take Mahomes but season on the line, NEED a touchdown, only a minute left? I will take Brady over God himself. Every time. You don't just become the GOAT on skill it takes balls and ice in your veins and doing what he's done over two decades to earn that title. And not every flavor of the week QB who comes through the league will surpass that. If Mahomes wants Brady's torch it'll take 5+ Super Bowls and 2 decades of clutchness and consistency
