Should Parcells have gotten in?

honestly if robert edwards had the career he should have had, and if katzenmoyer hadnb't hurt his neck, those 3 years weren't horrible.......a couple of misses high in the draft, but the majority of the guys he drafted stayed in the league higher than league average for their draft position......they weren't great years, and after the 3 years previous they looked a little sketchy in comparison, but.....we've had worse lol
I’ll give him Edwards. But Katz had the problem to begin with. Grier still made the pick.

Should be noted that with Bill never leaving to the Jets, we never need to draft Edwards. We would’ve still had Martin.

Lowballing C-Mart so he leaves. Singing Rucci and Lane to big extensions. Overall his drafts sucked.

Yeah it was clear that Parcells was still the one in charge.

Grier has the blood of 97-99 drafts on his hands
If he was in charge then why did he leave?

Brady's arm strength was more than good enough. Check out the throw to Moss at the end of SB42. Thing traveled 70 yards in the air with accuracy.

I actually think Brady was the better athlete. Keep in mind he was drafted by the Expos and letted in 3 sports in HS.
I wasn't stating that Brady's arm strength wasn't good enough (it clearly was, especially out to 25 yards between the numbers where his velocity was amazing). And many of his throws to Moss were just heave it to Randy and get it within his magnetic field and he'll come down with it type throws. I was merely inferring that he didn't have that flick his wrist and put it 50+ yards on a rope on a regular basis level of arm strength.

And it doesn't change the fact the Reggie White threw Max Lane around like a toy.
Putting him on an island with White was bizarre. Not his fault. Bad game plan.
so is Grier also going in?

I mean he was in charge of personnel for all of the "Parcell's" drafts.....he was the #1 guy pushing to draft brady........seems like he is more deserving than BP?
Rehbein was the #1 guy pushing for Brady, but Grier's assignment was to use his connection with Carr to get intel on Tom.

I've been watching old late 90's Pats games. While I liked Katenzmoyer, he struggled more than I originally thought. I think it had to do with him playing multiple positions and not stick at OLB for what he was drafted for. Edwards on the other hand, is exactly how I remembered. He was very similar to Sony Michel - both stiff runners, not very fast and only could run where the blocking was. You weren't going to get wow plays from either of them. With that said, had Edwards played in 1999, the Pats make the playoffs and Carroll keeps his job.

Parcells left nearly 30 years ago.

I wasn't happy about how he left, but surely 30 years is enough time to get over it, no?
you underestimate the stubbornness of New Englanders

Well deserved.

The man left a TV job to take on a team that was 9-39 over three seasons. He went 34-34 and took us to a Superbowl that was actually a close game until Desmond Howard broke it open and Reggie White started mowing down Max Lane.

He left behind a good team for Carroll who went 10-6, 9-7, and 8-8 in three seasons with Zampese's maddening timing route offense.....

Also, he (and Grier) drafted these *KEY* players: Drew Bledsoe, Ted Johnson, Willie McGinest, Chris Slade, Ty Law, Lawyer Milloy, Adam Vinatieri (UDFA), Tedy Bruschi, and Troy Brown....several of these players contributed to the 2001 Superbowl team.

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaah, and whose lack of preparation and concentration resulted in the kick to Howard and not giving Lane any help?

COULD IT HAVE BEEN THE HEAD COACH WHO WAS MORE INTERESTED IN GETTING A NEW JOB THAN IN DOING A GOOD JOB WITH HIS OLD TEAM?

Belichick himself was angry with Parcells over all that.

Oh, and they didn't lowball Martin as much as Parcells made use of THEN LEGAL contract wording that made matching the offer impossible for the Patriots. It was called a 'poison pill' contract and was immediately banned soon after.

Water under the bridge…it has now been 28 years and 10 Superbowls ago….

And if we had won that game….I shudder to think how it would have altered the trajectory of the BB/Brady dynasty.

Grier may have been THE WORST GM we ever had. We constantly had high picks, and he continually SUCKED
I hated Grief
with every fiber.....

Pats did it to the Dolphins in 2007 for Welker, but threw in a extra pick in good faith. Pats did them a favor as he would've rotted in Miami anyways.

Back to Martin though, it's such an intriguing story that will never get old because of how good of a player he was and how losing him contributed to the Pats late 90's downfall. Carroll warned management that Martin was going to leave if the Pats didn't increase their initial lowball offer. They didn't believe anyone wanted him until Parcells found out what was going on. The Pats could've matched the "poison pill", but didn't because Martin had the power to void the deal after 1998 and become a unrestricted FA. This was why Bob took the 1st and 3rd round picks instead.

However, had Edwards been a stud or the Jaguars took Edwards and Fred Taylor fallen to he Pats (who Mel Kiper thought the Pats wanted), we're not even talking about this. An example is the Colts swapping Faulk for James.

Interesting that he's going in as a "Contributor" and not Head Coach. Sullivan is the only other contributor in the Pats HOF. Scar is in as an "Assistant Coach" FWIW.

But at least Kraft had the decency to put The Con Man in posthumously. This time we'll have to see the fraud mugging it up basking in the light of the pink hats genuflecting before his Tunaship. Parcels betrayed this team as completely as Billy defrauded every one of his investors.

Tuna was a veritable savior for this franchise when needed most, then committed a selfish act of betrayal. His induction is a personal mending of fences between two elderly men that has nothing to do with the fans but will be trotted out as a "fan event." It's up to us to celebrate the good times he brought us -- most of which I attended in Foxboro -- or turn our backs because of how it ended.

If there is this much debate about whether or not a person deserves to be in a team's hall of fame - then he shouldn't get in.

The vast majority of fans should be in agreement for every member of a team's HoF/Ring of Honor.

Not having that consensus devalues the honor tremendously.

I voted yes.

Cataclysmic changes in the fortunes of this team occurred after Orthwein hired Bill Parcells.

Whether you like him or not, the foundation of everything good that this team has accomplished were laid by Parcells.
This is the argument for Tuna Sh!t that I don't get. The Pats had top teams in the 60's, 70's and 80's and had been in the SB before he arrived. And one of those teams lost in the SB just like he did. He was nothing special and his record shows it.

Not only is there no consensus, but according to the poll here, which is probably made up of more avid Pats fans, 2/3 don't feel he belongs.

Great question. Wasn't he the guy who forced Tuna out by picking the groceries?

Funny how Tuna can take credit for the players while at the same time whining that he wasn't allowed to pick them.

If anyone gets credit for the Pats dynasty it should be the other Bill.
